Russian Creek Vineyards

Russian Creek Vineyards Russian Creek Vineyards is located in the heart of the Potter Valley AVA and is dedicated to the production of quality Chardonnay and Merlot grapes.

Russian Creek Vineyards is located in the Potter Valley AVA. The Russian Creek runs along the north side of the vineyards and flows into the East Fork of the Russian River between vineyards blocks 4 and 5. There are a total of five blocks varying in size from about 5.5 to 7.5 acres. Quality Chardonnay and Merlot grapes are produced for sale. Current clients include award winning wineries in Mendoc

ino and Sonoma Counties California and local small scale/home wine makers. There is a full compliment of vineyard equipment - the Gregoire harvester is also rented. The vineyard is managed by Nicholas Simmons, a graduate student in viticulture and enology at the University of California Davis who also has a degree in chemistry. The Russian Creek Vineyards business office is located at 1976 Lake Dr, Cardiff, CA, 92007 Anyone interested in learning more about Russian Creek Vineyards or wants to be put on the list for second pick for the 2016 harvest should contact the business office by calling 760 803 5994. The property that is now known as the Russian Creek Vineyard has been growing grapes for at least 30 years and although we do not know the full history walnuts and hops have also been grown commercially. Thank you for looking at our FB page.

We are no longer in the wine grape growing business. Vineyard was sold in November 2019. Vineyard farming equipment is being gradually sold off. Still have a grape harvester, two john deere 5400 tractors, mowers, suckering machine, tiller and more stuff for sale.
We learned alot about the wine business in the 5 years we owned the vineyard. All should have a serious respect for what it takes to produce a bottle of wine. It is alot more intensive than one would think and the risk are significant. For us the fires, the smoke, the winds and maintenance of the property were factors that made it difficult. The field workers are hard working people, paid little and are under valued by the general public....without them the wine industry would not be what it is in California. Hats off to them. Legal emigrants or not the farming industry needs these people, period. It is time for us to move on to other adventures.
This ends our posting about the Russian Creek Vineyards.

Despite lots of equipment issues (tractors, mowers, sprayers, harvester, irrigation lines and controllers) we are nearing the completion of our first year of ownership and our first harvest of all five blocks. Looks to be a good one. We have endeavored to use sustainable practices where/when we could and will continue to do so. We have installed soil moisture sensors to help us irrigate sensibly, set up a viticulture data collection system and employed skilled, motivated workers. We are ready for harvest and the start of a new growing season, hoping that this past year will be profitable after the grapes are delivered and we get paid.

This years harvest included approximately 80 tons of Chardonnay (down about 40 tons from 2013 and 2014) and 46 tones of Merlot that were sold under contract, about 5.2 tons of Merlot that went to the Nelson Family Winery for custom crush that will be available for sale in bulk when it is ready - approximately 900 gallons. Small amounts (maybe three tons total) of Merlot grapes were sold to local home winemakers. Unfortunately we still had Merlot grapes left on the vine. We are looking forward to 2016 and continued production of quality grapes. We have been notified that our contract has been extended through 2016.
