ll Italian restaurant on a Sunday about 19 years ago. I was his waitress that evening just after finishing the day shift at Danbury Hospital, meanwhile Dmitry was a white-collar worker owning a very successful mortgage and real estate company in New Rochelle, New York. We were married in 2005 and gave birth to our first-born son in 2007, he was immediately followed in 2008 by our second born son. In 2006 we purchased an outdoor wood boiler to heat our home and our pool since oil prices were on the rise. Around that time the economy started to fall apart and so did the mortgage and real estate business; we quickly realized that we would need to do something else, with a strong loving marriage and having each other we knew this would not stop us. Several times we ordered wood from โwood guysโ in the area and they either did not show up or their product was not what they promised it would be or they were no longer around. We thought why canโt we make firewood a good reliable business for customers to buy from. Dmitry went from being a full time white collar worker to a full time blue collar worker overnight. We started HotAssWood.com in our own back yard with just 2 guys and a log splitter. We started by palletizing the wood but the wood would be wet so we had to put our creativity to the test, that is when we introduced our 1st generation open top bags. Dmitry and the crew would split the wood and fill the bags to make a half a cord of wood. In 2015 the wood started to take over the house and we no longer had a yard or privacy. We had so many customers in and out of the house that we decided to officially find a commercial location. That is when we found the perfect location on Route 55 in Poughquag, NY. We opened there in November of 2015 and were quickly inspected by Dutchess County Weights and Measures. No one believed that our open top bags held a half a cord of wood. Four hours later and a lot stacking and measuring by Weights and Measures we received our certificate that our half cord bags meet their expectations and do in fact hold a half a cord of wood. Since then we have introduced our closed top solar kiln bags. These bags have been a game changer! Over the summer we made the biggest purchase of all, our Bell 8000 firewood processor with a 16 way head. This is our story and how we made it to where we are today, we could not have gotten this far without each other and the love and support of our customers. We value each and every one of you. Update 2021 we purchased vacant raw commercial land in Lagrangeville on Route 55 between Dutchess Recreational Vehicles and Lagrange Physical Therapy 3 years ago. The address is 757 Freedom Plains Rd Poughkeepsie, NY. We finally got our approvals after a very long 3 years and have started to clear, develop and build our new mega super store.
