Soooo…today was bath day for Stevie😬 For those of you who don’t know I have a special needs chicken. She is visually impaired and has some neurological issues. Chicken Dad had to build her a modified ramp so she could get in and out of the coop by herself. She falls down a lot…I mean A LOT. So she gets dirt, mud, sticks and all sorts of stuff jammed up under her left wing and in her feathers. She can’t preen herself very well so sometimes she requires a bath to keep her b***y clean, fluffy and fabulous. Stevie hates baths and I hate bathing her😂 I always end up looking like I just wrestled an alligator, not a chicken, by the end of it🤦🏻‍♀️ In fact I’m not sure who looks worse me or her before we blow dry her. Since Stevie thought she was a person for such a long time she gets extra cuddles before her blow out. After a dusting of lime tomorrow she will be good as new!

Did you know that chickens are omnivores? Protein is important to a chickens diet just like it is with ours! Chickens are also feathered garbage cans, lol. They will eat most anything. That said we try not to waste food so the flock gets almost all of our leftovers that don’t get eaten. In this case I was cooking up some bacon tonight and I cooked up some of the fat I pulled off it. I added oats, red pepper flakes, oregano, and thyme to the bacon fat….a chickens dream 😂. In the morning I’ll scramble a few eggs and throw them in there, including the crushed up shells. They love treats like this! All of it is good for them and they act like they haven’t seen food before when I give it to them, lol.

The babies have been coming in to my work since mid January. I’m trying really hard not to bring any home yet😬 It’s tortuous. Who let me be their chick lady🤦🏻‍♀️I do love seeing all the new fluffy butts every week though!

Have chickens they said, it’ll be fun they said…until half of them don’t make it in the coop at night and try to freeze🙄 Honestly they would be fine but I haven’t finished the apron on the run so I’m not taking any chances. I also don’t feel like trudging out there at 0darkthirty to chase the coyote off and put them away so they stop screaming 😆

Cleaning out the Fluffy Butt Hut today. One of the not so glamorous parts of being a chicken tender. With it being a bit chilly at night here it’s extra important to keep their bedding fresh and dry since some chickens in this coop sleep on the floor. I do the deep litter method in the big coop during the winter but the Fluffy Butt Hut is too shallow to do that.

Hi everyone! I decided to start a page just for the farm. I will be doing regular updates on what is going on around the farm and with the chickens. I'll cover care, tips and tricks I’ve learned and some fails for sure. I’ll also make sure to keep you in the loop about the chickens antics and shenanigans…they are always up to something 🙄 .
