Freedmen established Clarke County’s Josephine City (part of the Town of Berryville) in 1870. It is listed on the registers. The settlement of Josephine City conforms to the ideas of Frederick Douglass who encouraged emancipated people to remain close to their agricultural roots and livelihoods and refrain from moving to urban areas. Hey y'all we are offering farm shares via our online store with a current description of contents as a weekly grocery shopportunity! We have a few shares still available this week at Riverside Outfitters at Stratford Hills, at Huguenot Springs in Midlothian/Powhatan and at People's Pie in Scott's Addition. Thanks for helping us keep our farm and the partner farms of Virginia Growers on track for spring, and for the coming restaurant renaissance, when it happens and it will. In the meantime shop like a chef and check out our farm shares:

Manakintowne & Virginia Growers Produce share | manakintowne

Friends & neighbors, as you may know, our primary customer base is the wonderful community of chefs and restaurants in Central Virginia, and we are all bracing for the effects of the pandemic on restaurant sales. The farm is in good shape heading in to spring and we are well set up with produce now and with transplants and perennials for later. We are lucky to be able to keep working in the outdoors and in shifts, at a good "social distance." Our goal is to keep our wonderful crew employed during this downturn planting and maintaining the farm, and to be there for our customers when they get back up to speed. In that spirit, we are for the first time offering CSA style farm shares to the community, specifically the Powhatan and Midlothian areas. We are excited to be able to offer this, and to help you eat healthy and avoid crowds in this way. We encourage you to support our whole community of farmers through this challenging situation by getting on board with a CSA that works for you! Farmers: post CSA links in comments. Be well and thanks for all.

This week: Salad mix, spinach, microgreens, herbs, carrots, Brussels sprouts or baby pak choi, apples, a dozen cage free eggs and more! Expect two to six servings per produce item. Pick up at Huguenot Springs, Thursdays, 3-6:00.
