JUNETEENTH
(Celebrating the spreading runners of truth, and the fruit of Black liberation)

Start small.
Hug the earth.
Root for it.
Then let your sweet power rise,
Your cool greens make sun-sugar,
Your fruit hang like rubies,
Your seeds adorn like gold,
Ancestors singing
With wildest joy,
A juicy feast
Of freedom

This statement from Harvard is an important reminder about the challenges of the term, "Celtic."
We describe Tir na nOg as a "Celtic heritage farm" because we steward heritage-breed animals and heirloom-variety plants from Scotland and Wales, and we also uphold human cultural traditions and languages from those nations. We repudiate and reject the use of Celtic symbols and cultural trappings by racists and white supremicists. We maintain a commitment to welcoming Black, Indigenous, and People of Color, and we actively contribute to, and work for, anti-racist efforts. If your interest in our farm stems from any notions of Celtic "purity," this is not the farm for you.

Vacation, day one: put up the hammock. Found a favourite book to revisit, and settled in to admire our farm from a fresh angle. Feels like I've waited years for this day.
