I wanted to take a moment to give a shoutout to my girl, Gretchen. 💕
A few weeks ago she had to be separated from the main flock, and when I reintroduced her, everything seemed totally normal. But less than an hour later, I came back to find she’d been attacked and had her crest feathers pulled out. 😢
I decided to move her in with my youngest babies, and she has taken them in as her own. She now proudly considers herself their mom, and I couldn’t be happier for her or for them. ❤️🐥

I downsized my flock by half and it feels so good. The amount of birds that I had was overwhelming for me and I tend to make the same mistake every year. I enjoy everyone having names and having the time to check health on individual birds thoroughly and frequently, which was extremely hard to do with how many I had.

With that said, I am planning on extremely limited hatching next year. I think it and say it every year but a lot of joy is lost when I hatch too many chicks. These birds are pets and while I love hatching beautiful little mottled chicks, one can only have so many chickens.

Will I have 🥚 available? If I do, my prices will be higher than they have been. I’m hoping to finally get someone out here for NPIP certification, which I haven’t had luck with so far. If I am able to get certified, I may try to dabble in some local shows if time permits.
