A peek inside the beehive—

This was a hive that started last winter strong. Then coming out of winter, they just lagged. There was no apparent reason why. They had plenty of pollen and nectar, space to grow...

And finally, I pull a frame like this, and it feels like they’re gonna be okay. (Maybe you can hear the relief in my voice!)

We’re making our final honey pull this week, and then we start winterization!

Soooo… it’s been a little bit since I’ve shared what’s been going on! July was filled with family, side adventures, prairie days, and honey work.

I got to tour Ebert Honey’s apiary with , where we cut honeycomb, used their fancy bottling machine, and watched their wax filtering process...All just in time to start bottling my own honey!

And the best part? Honey is officially bottled and available now! 🍯

A little bit of this week on the farm: flowers for a retirement party, the tiniest blue egg, Peony Days arranging class, some kitty cat time, and the prairie starting to bloom.

We’re winding down our flower work for the year, and I’m so excited for some time with friends and family!

We still have a few dahlia tuber collections left if you’re hoping to plant some this year. That window is closing soon!

I've never paid attention before - but milkweed has such a lovely floral scent! The bugs on the milkweed are Red Milkweed Beetles - they thrive on milkweed, eating the sap, which makes them unpalatable for predators!
