Ricco Ranch is celebrating 120 years in business this year! The ranch has been in the Ricco and Voigt families for 120 years, beginning when Ernest Ricco, Sr. and his wife, Annie purchased 160 acres in Prairie City, Oregon, in 1897. They raised six children at the original acreage and eventually, the siblings went on to acquire additional land from homesteaders. In 1941, Ernest Ricco, Jr., Hedy Vo

igt’s father, started the first commercial turkey operation in Oregon, using the profits to add acreage to the ranch. By 1943, Ernest Ricco, Jr., with his siblings, had acquired approximately 5,000 acres and had begun adding cattle, in addition to the turkey operation. In 1955, Ernest Ricco, Jr. sold the turkey operation, and partnered with his brother, Henry Ricco to run the cattle ranch. Together, the brothers built the ranch to approximately 8,500 acres. In 2000, Ernest Ricco, Jr. died, and following his wife, Dorothy Ricco’s death, in 2007, the ranch passed to the third generation, Patrick and Hedy Voigt.
