Now that I’ve had time to reflect on the events of this morning I want to address the situation one final time.

Two local women, neither of whom I have ever met or served, chose to publicly spread misinformation about my business without presenting any factual evidence. The photos they shared claiming they prove my cookies come from a particular vendor simply do not constitute proof. If appearance alone were evidence I could just as easily post countless screenshots from professional bakers, food bloggers, and baking influencers whose cookies look remarkably similar to mine. These are popular cookie flavors made using common techniques so naturally many finished products share similar characteristics.

That said I have no intention of continuing to engage in this back and forth. Giving energy to people who thrive on conflict only gives them the attention and influence they are seeking and that is not how I choose to spend my time.

For those who know my business, you know what Shanna’s Sugar Shack has always been about.

I do not own a traditional bakery nor do I own a traditional ice cream parlor. I created a place where people can combine fresh baked goods and premium ice cream to create desserts that bring joy, comfort and a little happiness into their day. That has always been the heart of this business.

The inspiration came after my grandmother passed away. Her loss left an incredible void in my life, my mother’s life and my sister’s life. My grandmother’s home was always a place where sweets brought people together. No matter what was happening in life, family struggles, school stress or difficult seasons, her kitchen was a safe place filled with laughter, desserts and love. I wanted to honor that legacy by creating a space where our community could gather, neighbors could meet, children could smile and for just a little while people could set aside whatever they were carrying and simply enjoy themselves.

I have never claimed to be the greatest baker in Prescott, Arizona or anywhere else. I do not market myself as some elite pastry chef nor has that ever been the foundation of my business. When I have shared accomplishments they have been awards voted on by our community and I am incredibly grateful for that support.

I also have absolutely no issue with businesses choosing to use premade baked goods or working with wholesale vendors. There is nothing inherently wrong with that business model. In fact if I ever decide that it is the best decision for my business I would have no hesitation in doing so. Running a small business requires making wise financial decisions, especially in an area where foot traffic can be unpredictable and sales can fluctuate. If using a trusted vendor allows me to continue serving high quality desserts while keeping my doors open and creating the experience I have always envisioned then that is a business decision I would make without shame. It would not change what we serve, how we serve it or the care we put into every customer experience. The quality and the joy we strive to provide would remain the same. My focus has never been on convincing people that I am Prescott’s premier baker. My focus has always been creating an experience, one where people can customize desserts to their own taste and leave feeling a little happier than when they walked in.

It is unfortunate that some people feel compelled to tear down another woman owned small business rather than encourage it. I cannot control the actions of others but I can control how I respond. I choose to respond with grace, integrity and gratitude for the people who continue to support us.

As for the claim that everyone in town is talking about this I find that to be quite an exaggeration. But if there is one thing I have learned in business it is that attention comes and goes and I remain focused on the customers who walk through my doors every day.

Finally, I would like to address the comments about Jessica and Cheryl. They are not family members nor are they close personal friends. They are simply loyal customers who have supported Shanna’s Sugar Shack over the years. They have witnessed the long hours, the sacrifices, the challenges and the determination it has taken to keep this business open for the past three and a half years. Their willingness to speak up was not orchestrated. It came from their own experiences and their desire to support a business they genuinely care about.

To everyone who has continued to show kindness, encouragement and support, thank you. You are the reason this business exists and you are the reason I will continue focusing my energy on creating a place that brings a little more sweetness into our community.

We started Shanna’s Sugar Shack with a simple and beautiful mission, to carry on our sweet Grandma Carole’s legacy of spreading joy, sharing love and creating blissful moments through extraordinary sweets. For the last 3 1/2 years we’ve been honored and blessed to serve you as Prescott's very first customizable, build-your-own dessert bar.

We are so much more than just a place to grab premium ice cream, gourmet cookies, or brownies. While we love those treats on their own, the real magic happens when we bring them together. We built our dream on letting you customize your own sweet creations, whether that means building legendary gourmet baked good sundaes, crafting massive ice cream cookie sandwiches, or whipping up loaded milkshakes, malts, floats, and freezes. Your glowing reviews, warm smiles, and shared memories in our shop have truly meant the world to us.

But today, we need to share a very honest, vulnerable truth with you.

While our hearts are full, our brick-and-mortar location as many of you know struggles to produce the business we need to successfully operate. Despite the love poured into our shop, the foot traffic downtown has simply been too hard to sustain. We poured an immense amount of our savings into opening this space, and we have yet to see a profit to pay back that initial investment, let alone grow.

We have 1.5 years left on our lease, and our ultimate goal is to save our Prescott location for many years to come. But to keep our doors open we have to find a way to offset our losses by building momentum elsewhere.

We need to take our sweetness on the road.

The Plan: A Sugar Shack Food Trailer

We have a beautiful opportunity to expand outside our four walls. We are raising $40,000 to purchase a used food trailer.

This trailer will allow us to operate four days a week in high-traffic, high-demand areas outside of our brick-and-mortar. In fact, we’ve already secured an incredible, high-momentum spot to set up on Mondays and Tuesdays, a location we know will breathe vital new life and success into our business, ensuring we can stay open for the long haul.

The revenue from this trailer will directly support and sustain our physical shop, ensuring that when our lease is up, Shanna’s Sugar Shack can stay right here in Prescott where it belongs.

To my wonderful Shanna’s Sugar Shack community,

We have been open for a little over 3.5 years and every day I get to bake and create for you is a blessing. But as many small business owners know behind the scenes can be a real struggle.

Over the last few years a drop in foot traffic has made it incredibly difficult to keep things afloat. I have poured my personal savings and taken on significant debt just to keep our doors open because I love this dream and I want to keep trucking along.

To take the financial pressure off the bakery and ensure we can stay open long-term, I am looking to pick up some part-time work utilizing my 18 years of professional background.

Before opening the bakery my career was rooted in bookkeeping, financial auditing, cash flow analysis, human resources and payroll. I am looking to offer these services to local small businesses that might need expert part-time financial help for 20 to 30 hours a week.

Because of how I run the shop my availability is highly flexible:

I am completely free on Mondays and Tuesdays when the bakery is closed.

On Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, I am only in the shop during the early morning hours to bake so I am available for the rest of the day.
