My stand will unfortunately not be opening in May. Too many tasks have fallen on my lap. I will be trying again in June and if that falls through, I might have to wait until next year.

I have decided to keep all of the chicks I currently have to improve my breeding program and work towards getting a better batch of chicks for next year to sell. I have been holding off on my dream for some time now and thought I would just jump on it this year but I also don’t want to be reckless. While I execute a better plan, I hope you’ll enjoy the journey with me 😊. Spring has finally sprung and I can’t wait to share some of my hard work with you in the form of media for now.

Is she supposed to do this on the third day? I am impressed! Tomorrow is going to be twice a day of this!

I’m challenging myself this year with baking! I love measuring with my heart so baking is hard for me.
I decided sourdough starter would be an easy beginner’s recipe. I’ve also been eyeing Focaccia. I’m going to try and make some chocolate chip cookies next and if all goes well, I’ll be trying more recipes, some of my favorites are flan, lemon bars, pizza, pretzels, and cinnamon rolls. I know cakes are going to be a challenge for me but I want to start with what I know and slowly get there. Wish me luck!

Today’s recipe:
1 cup Bob’s Red Mill Whole Wheat Organic Flour
1 cup Distilled water

Day 1-3
Mix together until a paste consistency. Store at room temp for 24 hrs. Next day discard half of the mixture and add another cup of flour and cup of water for the same pasty consistency.

Day 4
Once you start seeing bubbles, discard half and replace with 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of water every 12 hours.

Day 5
Repeat step 4 but by end of day 5, sourdough starter should be active!

Notes:
Day 1 I added too much water so she didn’t rise at all. Day 2 I made her into a pasty consistency with less water, she loved that! Day 3 I did the same thing from Day 2. I’m back on my old tricks of measuring the water with my heart but so far, it has been a success. I will give a new update tomorrow.

I let them out in our herb garden and they slowly migrated to my feet, lol. 23 chicks still available. 6 yellow chicks (Light Brahma) and the rest are Cochin mixes. Straight-run.

I have decided to call her, Daisy. Daisy has learned to eat and drink on her own but now I have to teach her recall. She can hear, just have to work on her coming towards me when I call her.

She is so cute! I think my wish came true when I said I wished they could stay small. She’s as old as the other chicks but she has been growing at a slower pace. My husband asked what I was going to do with her, I think she will be a house chicken. I’m not sure how long she will live but she has made me so happy, I just want her to enjoy her time with me.

BACKSTORY
my third batch of eggs were collected late by me because I had a broody hen sitting over them. I was going to let her hatch them but last minute she abandoned the clutch so I put them into the incubator with an expected timeframe of a week or week and half. Because I was certain they weren’t going to hatch anytime soon, I was opening the incubator to label, clean, and check on other egg batches. Unfortunately, batch #3 started hatching early and I ended up with this little one.
Lesson here is, leave the incubator alone and don’t let the hens incubate in the foreseeable future.

Beautiful day to be outside. Unfortunately most of my plants are still under patches of snow but hopefully after tonight’s rain, I’ll be able to enjoy some more signs of spring. 🌷

While it’s gloomy out, thought I’d share last year’s beautiful collection of peacock feathers. Last year was their first year and the feathers don’t look as full as they should. This year’s feathers are coming in great so far!

Good morning! I’m so excited to say I have successfully germinated Chamomile, Coriander, and Green Onions! (Jk, the green onions were store bought, I just added the ends to my indoor mini greenhouse for them to grow out again 😆) I have Eucalyptus in there too but I’m not sure they will grow because they were bought at Walmart.
