A message from Brandon Hopkins and the Graves family

To our valued customers, associates, friends, and community,
We would like to share some important news about Graves Supermarkets.

Brandon Hopkins has entered into an agreement to sell Graves Supermarkets to Hannaford Supermarkets. The store is expected to begin operating under the Hannaford banner in late fall. Until then, the store will continue operating as usual.

Graves was founded in 1935, and for 91 years it has been family owned and operated. That is something we are incredibly proud of. For generations, Graves has been more than a grocery store. It has been a place where people worked their first jobs, built careers, saw familiar faces, supported local families, and came together as a community.

When the Graves family sold the store to Brandon in December 2021, it was with deep appreciation for the history of the business and the people who made it special. Brandon has carried that responsibility as the current owner, and this next step represents another important chapter in the life of the store.

We know that change can bring emotion, questions, and uncertainty — especially with a business that has been part of the community for so long. But we want this message to be a positive one. Hannaford is a respected company with strong roots in grocery retail, and they have already shown success with former Graves stores. Hannaford purchased the Graves stores in Camden and Bar Harbor in 2005, and those stores continue to be successful parts of their communities today.

We are also very pleased that Hannaford recognizes that Graves associates are the heart of the business and we’re currently working through details to ensure a seamless transition for them. Their dedication, service, and relationships with customers are what have made Graves special all these years.

Most of all, we want to say thank you. Thank you to our associates, our customers, our vendors, and the entire community for supporting Graves Supermarkets through so many years and so many chapters. Your loyalty has meant more than words can express.

As this process moves forward, we will continue to share information when appropriate. Until then, it is business as usual, and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
