Happy Easter! Spring has sprung at DO Farm. It was a long and unusually cold winter, so we're playing catch-up to get things rolling at the farm. Garlic planted in the fall is looking lovely, flower babies are being planted, rows are being cleared and prepped, cool season starts are eagerly awaiting planting and yes, we're still harvesting greens from the High Tunnel. We even have carrots to pick from the farm field that made it through the winter. Stay tuned for more adventures from our volunteer "farmers" as our busy growing season has arrived!

Merry Christmas from DO Farm! We've finished harvesting for the year, and guess what? We surpassed last year's total! We harvested 4221.5 pounds of produce for donation to St. John Vianney Food pantry and the Calvert County Public Schools Summer Meals Program. Our last few harvests included cool season greens, sweet potatoes and cabbage...all healthy foods! The High Tunnel is starting to produce greens as we look forward to a new and productive year!

Wow, it's the middle of November already and you need to see what's been going on at the Farm. It's catch-up time!
We replaced the plastic on the High Tunnel in October. It took six people five hours to take off the old plastic and wrestle on the new. It was awkward, hot, dirty, and fun!
Of course, we had a Fall Party, thanked Devon for being our farm manager the past year, and welcomed Addy into the position. Yes, she got her official 'Farm Bro' tee! We tackled another maintenance project in the EDGE Garden, planted garlic, and continued harvesting beautiful produce for the food pantry. We just reached a ytd total of 3856 lbs...Whoo-hoo!!
Curt won the last weekly bouquet drawing of the year, and we snapped a picture with the Farm Bro team. They go over and above doing major projects on the Farm and we can't thank them enough.
That's it for now. Oh, we did catch our amorous Praying Mantis, aptly named Mata Hari, in the hyacinth bean vine with not just one but two suitors!

It's Farm Photo time! We finished August with 2343 lbs harvested YTD and donated and are moving along into September. We're pulling out the sad, unhappy summer crops and planting cool season plants. Flowers are blooming their hearts out, and butterflies are floating around everywhere. The Flower Girls even made bouquets to sell at the Sip & Save!

Man, July was one hot month! But that didn't stop our volunteers from harvesting lots of produce for our friends at St. John Vianney and the Calvert County Public Schools Summer Meals Program. Year to Date harvest is 1719 pounds...Whoo-hoo! See a sampling of our veggies below.

We also took time to celebrate the summer with a potluck. The Flower Girls made bouquets to adorn the tables, and everyone brought yummy dishes to share. Devon even displayed the "Farm Bros" tee shirt one of our volunteers ordered for our "Gentlemen Farmers"...LOL! As you can tell, we're a happy group despite gardening in whatever Mother Nature throws at us. Let's hope August brings cooler temperatures and more beautiful produce.
