Getting excited for January!!!! I have 5-6 bred for January, variety of bloodlines on the gilts and sows, but all sired by a boar I bought this summer from Tom Murray. We call the boar “Groovy”. He is a super chill guy, good bone and nice length. I love the tradional look that he has and hope he passes that to his offspring. I don’t registered any gilts that don’t meet standards and I like my girls to keep with the true Hereford look. Not to say I may not mind a little extra white, but what drew me to this breed was the look.

When time allows, I want to do a “maternity” shoot with all the prego girls. Poor groovy is going to need a vacation after this breeding season. He has a full plate.

The ultrasound is of one of my favorite gilts I bought from Dave Dato. She is a gorilla warfare gilt. I swear she could get fat on air. I won’t be offering any gilts from her as I’m hoping to keep them back for breeders but I don’t want to jinx myself and she has all boars…..I was over the moon excited to get a confirmed pregnancy on her with Groovy!!! She is due late Jan. I have 4 due for the beginning of Jan. Gonna be a busy couple days since I think the 4 are due pretty much at the same time

Poppy’s litter is on shavings now. She has a couple really neat boars that could be kept as boars or barrows for show.
She has a very traditional marked gilt that is really cool and two other big Gilts that dont meet marking standards that would do well in a market breeding program. I will be doing bett pictures this weekend. I plan on castrating next week
Her last litter, same sire, has a gilt that has taken a couple grand champion and reserves this show season.

Quinn had a small but mighty litter. All healthy and unassisted. She can redeem herself in January with her next litter. I always happy with healthy babies and mom.

We have had a busy couple days at the farm!! Quinn decided to farrow yesterday, not a big litter, but unassisted and all big and healthy!! 2 boys and 2 girls.
Then, cruella, who I have been waiting on for a month now decides to bring in the Fourth of July with a bang!!!! Had 8 babies, lost 1 (never got out of the sack). 5 girls and 2 boys. She is a registered spot sow bred to my cornpop boar, corndog. Not a big litter, but she was on thin ice since her first litter did not go well. She did great today, all unassisted, talking and getting up and down gentle, being the perfect mom we hoped she would be!!!!! She will be getting bred back to a registered spot boar for a (hopefully) January . Her only barrow went to his first show and got breed champion barrow, so she has the potential to throw some really cool babies!!!

And Poppy’s litter is ready to go next week too!!! Her litter got evicted to a pen with shavings when Quinn came in to farrow and cruella was in the other crate. The two show gilts are each in the open pen. Should be interesting when Gremlin comes in the barn probably tomorrow to farrow. The show gilts will get doubled up and mommas moved around. I really need a bigger barn 😉

The little gilt is on fire!!! Took reserve grand champion last weekend!!!! So proud of all her hard work!!!
