Brewing loose-leaf tea is a little more technical than simply adding hot water to tea leaves. Water temperature, steeping time, and tea-to-water ratio all influence how the leaves release their flavor, aroma, body, and natural compounds.

Different teas also require different brewing conditions. White and green teas generally benefit from lower temperatures, while oolong, black, and herbal teas can handle higher temperatures. Steeping time matters just as much. Too little time may leave the cup underdeveloped, while too much time can lead to excessive extraction and a stronger, more astringent flavor.

The amount of tea you use also affects the final cup. Following the right tea-to-water ratio helps maintain balance and gives the leaves enough room to properly infuse.
