Follow us and our journey as we grow our first crop. We will begin selling our garlic summer of 2018! Garlic is a flavor of our lives. What you water grows. It’s Liz here with a vulnerable update: We are not selling garlic this year.

Last year as we prepared for the birth of our 2nd child, we planted our garlic crop knowing it may be our last. When we started growing garlic on my parent’s land 5 years ago we did not have kids. I spent many hours in those first garlic fields praying for what we have now. We have two healthy children and a beautiful home to watch them grow up in.

These past few months we have focused on building our homestead and made a conscious decision to stop watering all the garlic. We have peace about this but we have to be intentional to not let our ego get in the way.

In this video you can see some of the dried up garlic and in the background our garden and fruit trees being watered. It may look like failure but it’s actually a sign of great growth. It’s all about perspective. What you water grows.

We may grow garlic again someday or sell other products. But right now we desire to put our energy into growing food and raising animals that will nourish our family and improve our land.

We plan to continue to use this account to record our homesteading journey and we hope you’ll follow along.

We spent the evening for craft burgers with . All of the ingredients were sourced local. It was absolutely delicious food and beautiful scenery. What was most special was hearing and Carla, the owner of , share about the importance of supporting local. It’s not just for the benefit of our community, it’s also for the quality of ingredients for our health. Check out the future events that are hosting as a part of their Dinner on the Farm Series. You’ll be satisfied with a locally sourced meal, prepared by a talented chef, and scenery that will help put things in perspective. We will be back for sure! @ Princeton, Minnesota

Happy Father’s Day from Father’s Acres. This photo from yesterday’s pop of shop shows the fathers behind the farm.
Chris, is the brains (and most of the labor) behind Father’s Acres. Chris is a diligent researcher, can build anything, knows all things mechanics, has the most eclectic interests, can make a stiff drink, and has excellent dance moves. He’s also an incredible father to our daughter and makes us laugh harder than anyone else.
Elmer, the one with the Santa beard, is my (Liz’s) dad. He was the one who let us start growing garlic on his land four years ago. He is a kind spirit who loves people and wants to see them grow to their potential. He has been a huge supporter of our farm and is part of the inspiration behind our farm name.

Cheers to all the dads!

We have been quiet on here because we have been busy—We bought and moved to our own farm! Our farm name will remain as Father’s Acres even though we will no longer be growing our garlic on Liz’s parent’s land. Now we own this land but it is still our belief it is just ours to take care of and to be good stewards. AND the name is still fitting because...Chris is going to be a father! We are growing garlic and we are growing a baby too. Baby Burd is coming in January. We are abundantly grateful for all the blessings and the friends and family who continue to support us.

I’ve had people say to me “I don’t even know what a garlic plant looks like!” I also take it for granted when we see produce in the grocery store and don’t know where it comes from.
A lot of love goes into each plant in order to get it to our final product. This garlic has been handled with care, by us as well as our friends and family who have supported us from planting to harvest.

We are on the last step to get our garlic ready to be sold — We trimmed and cleaned all day. There is a lot more to do, but it is incredible satisfying seeing a beautiful bulb of garlic.
Stay tuned—Our garlic will be ready for you to enjoy very soon!
