For the brave and beautiful animals that found their way over the years into our family.
"Little Yellow Sticker"
Today; I took off your "little yellow sticker" and you became free.
The "little yellow sticker" stamped āState/Federal; USND; Do Not Removeā securely attached to your mane, clearly identified you.
Slowly as I work on removing that "little yellow sticker" from your mane, I thanked God for your life.
You will never have to face the fate that the" little yellow sticker" condemned you to.
- You did nothing wrong, you simply were born on American soil.
As a human, I can not bear to think of the inhumane, painful, agonizing future, that governmental sticker cleared you for.
Some will say that there was a reason you ended up with a "little yellow sticker" on your mane, the reason means nothing to you.
Many like yourself gave their heart and soul to humans, until they did not need you anymore.
- You found yourself surrounded by a legendary purse winning racehorse, a former level two dressage horse, a pony that carried children around for years at a riding school, a horse that won reining championships and the donkey who had an early birth due to stress and now has her baby at her side.
- On the trailer you were next to an old mule that could not longer pull a buggy, a young horse who never will reach their 3rd birthday, the three-day eventing horse that could no longer jump and the three horses that used to call the wild plains their home.
- All of them were given a ālittle yellow stickerā.
We could not remove the ālittle yellow stickerā from your mane today, as it was designed to last until the end. So slowly I cut off the ālittle yellow stickerā, forever freeing you of the bonds.
Here lies the ālittle yellow stickerā, a reminder that thousands of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules are shipped across our borders each week.
Today; I pray this ālittle yellow stickerā will move other humans to demand stricter animal protection laws from birth through death.
