Hello to all,
It is with a heavy heart that I announce the closing of Aiello's Fruit Baskets. After 88 years of operation, I have made the difficult decision to close our doors. The change in demographics, a shrinking customer base, generational dependence on internet/cell phones and increasing costs of produce all contributed to this decision.
First, I would like to extend appreciation to the town of Prospect Park which has been home to Aiello's since its inception in September of 1937. The success my father and I had here was due to many factors. We both had the help of family members throughout the years and for me, my Aunts and Uncles were there to assist me at a moment’s notice. All of my cousins worked here at one time in some capacity. A special thanks to cousins Sam and Gina Guido both of whom went above and beyond to help me succeed. Many close friends, that I consider family, also played a big part in my running of Aiello's...Brian, Dave Whyte, Marc, Joey Z. and Sal. I cannot thank all of them enough.
Many employees have passed through Aiello's Fruit Baskets without which we would never have been able to operate. Natasha and Christine being here at present, and I cannot leave without mentioning others that were such an integral part of the company. In the 70's and 80's with Jim VanGurp, Nick Moretta, Janet, Beth Ann, Ruth and Lori VanderKlay, and there's Jim Blundo who taught me the most and to whom I owe everything that is good in me. Later on brought RoseAnn and my Aunt Gail. My father was very lucky to have such dedicated workers. There for me was Rachel & Katie and Dianne and Grant Pellegrino, the best!
Final recognition goes to the one whose name is synonymous with Aiello's...Bob VanGurp. Bob started here in the mid 60's and has been a loyal dedicated worker ever since. He worked for my father and has been at my side since I took over. I would not have been able to continue without his experience, knowledge and loyalty. I could not have done it without him. Running and working Aiello's has been a way of life for me, one that I find very difficult to relinquish.
We had a good run, and I will cherish the lifetime of memories forever. So, as the sun sets on Aiello's Fruit Baskets for the last time, the final and most difficult farewell is to my loyal customers who I will also call friends. It’s been an honor to serve you all over the decades and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
All the best...
Bobby Aiello
