Lily spent her first day and night outside of a hard fence - just hot wire fencing. This dog is a real Houdini, but she did GREAT and stayed with her sheep!

We have been selected 2026 Tennessee Small Farmer of the Year - Best Management Practices at the TSU Small Farmer Expo today. Congrats to the other recipients in Innovative Marketing, Alternative Enterprises, and Most Improved Small Farmer. There are some amazing small farms in Tennessee, and we are honored to stand with them in recognition. Thank you to Madison O’Ferrall, our Giles Co. UT Agricultural Extension Agent for the nomination. It has been a great day.

We lost our precious Heartlander to this brutal heatwave this morning. He was a regal llama, he loved his little lambs, and he protected them well. Big shout out to Dr. Keenan at Fayetteville Animal Hospital for his guidance and reassurance, and to Jake Putman for his quick response in getting our Heartlander properly buried. Things just won’t be the same around here.

What we thought was a routine farm visit turned into this, today. We could not do what we do without the counsel, support, and guidance of our local USDA office, coupled with the best UT Ag Extension agents, the TN Department of Agriculture, the support of the fantastic folks of Giles Co., Tennessee, and most importantly, the grace of God. Thank you Brandon Gandy, Denise Little, Larry Dickey, the entire Giles Co. USDA office staff, and the Board of Directors for recognizing our efforts.

Sheep eat a lot of grass. This is why we rotate ours every day. Rotational grazing makes a difference in both the animals and the land. (Before and after taken 24 hours apart).

The lambs are running and playing in the front pasture and the hay has been cut in the back. We are blessed!
