This morning's herb harvest on the Homestead....parsley, oregano, pineapple sage and cilantro. I'm pruning back a small amount to encourage my herbs to grow bushy rather than tall and gangly.

Tonight's dinner...homegrown pork with potatoes, carrots and onions, and gravy made from the drippings. Yum!

Tonight's dinner: homegrown pork shoulder, homemade BBQ sauce, fresh-baked buns, black-eyed peas and home canned chow chow. Sooooo good!

Happy Halloween!!

Our chickens, goats and pigs love pumpkins! If you have any pumpkins leftover after Halloween and would like to donate them to our homestead, please contact me. Our animals will love you forever!!

I'm representing our Homestead on the Ag + Art Tour of Newberry County on June 23rd at West Ridge Farms-- Premium Beef in Prosperity. I'll be running a yarn spinning demo throughout the day and will have handmade goods for sale.

Mark your calendars for the tour, and find my tent at West Ridge Farms. Come on out, get to know your local farmers and have some fun!

10 broiler chickens in the freezer! I left 2 whole for roasting and parted out the other 8 for weekday meals. Forgot to take a picture before I put it all away, so here's one of them in our chest freezer.

This right here is why we raise our own chickens to provide eggs for our family.

If you can't raise chickens where you are, find a local farmer you can trust. Ask about their farm story, how their chickens are raised and if you can visit their farm to see for yourself. If they can't provide those things for you, keep looking to find a farmer who can.

We're talking about the food that nourishes our families' bodies, folks! Is there anything more important? Isn't it worth the time and cost to make sure what you're eating is healthy and nutritious? Know your farmer, know your food!!

The eggs, from a farm in NC, were distributed to Walmart stores, Food Lion stores and restaurants in 9 states, including South Carolina.
