In the cellar, every vintage is shaped through conversation.

Beside the barrels, ideas are shared, challenged, and refined—each decision guided by experience, instinct, and a deep respect for the fruit. These daily exchanges quietly steer the course of the wine, one thoughtful step at a time.

Long before release, the vintage finds its voice here.

Progress is measured one taste at a time.

With a glass in hand and a thief drawn from barrel, each vintage reveals where it has been—and where it’s going. These moments guide every decision, shaping the wine with patience and intent.

Long before the bottle, the story is already unfolding.

A quiet sign of awakening in the vineyard.

After winter’s rest, the vines begin to stir—pushing life upward from root to cane. At each pruning cut, a single drop emerges. Growers call it “bleeding,” but to us, it feels more like the first breath of a new vintage.

In the Horse Heaven Hills, the season has begun.

End of winter in the vineyard is quiet, but deeply important. Each careful cut during winter pruning helps shape the season ahead—guiding the vine’s energy toward the shoots and clusters that will soon emerge.

By May, the first tiny clusters will begin to form, catching the sunlight as the vines awaken. What we see then is the early promise of a harvest shaped months earlier by patient hands and thoughtful stewardship.

Each day, our vineyard manager Todd, enologist Ian and winemaker Ray, walk the rows — observing vine growth, feeling the soil, watching the way light and wind move across the canopy. It’s in these quiet, daily evaluations that the smallest adjustments are made: a shift in irrigation, a touch more leaf thinning, a careful response to the season’s rhythm.

Excellence is rarely about grand gestures. More often, it’s the result of steady attention and countless thoughtful decisions made vine by vine.

This is the quiet work that shapes every vintage at Trothe — long before a bottle is ever opened.

There is something profoundly grounding about a family estate.

Long before the first vintage of Trothe, our family was walking these hills, studying the light, tending the soil, and imagining what this land could become. Today, that same sense of responsibility and wonder guides every decision we make — from vineyard to bottle.

Trothe has never been about scale. It has always been about stewardship. About honoring the generations before us while carefully preparing the way for those who will follow. The work is patient. The standards are exacting. And the reward is knowing that each vintage reflects not just a season, but a legacy.

When you open a bottle of Trothe, you’re experiencing more than wine. You’re sharing in a family’s commitment to craft, to place, and to enduring character.

From our family estate to your table — we are grateful to be part of your story.

We’re still savoring memories from last year’s time at Taste Washington — reconnecting with friends, meeting fellow collectors, and sharing Trothe wines with such an enthusiastic community.

There’s something special about gathering in Seattle each spring, surrounded by passionate vintners and wine lovers, all celebrating the remarkable wines of Washington.

With this year’s event just a few weeks away (March 21 & 22), we’re looking forward to returning — grateful for the opportunity to pour, to share stories from the Horse Heaven Hills, and to raise a glass together once again.

If you’ll be there, we hope you’ll stop by and say hello.

Our next allocation is a few months away—but your journey doesn’t have to wait. Explore our current single-bottle offerings and experience the precision and restraint that define Trothe.

Vinified in Italian concrete, each contributing block was fermented to accentuate its unique terroir. We worked with Dargaud & Jaegle to identify forests and toasts best suited to our distinct elevations: 900, 1100, and 1421 feet. We cofermented one lot of Block 98 Cab with a touch of Petit Verdot to accentuate the block’s robust nature. Aged in 88% new French oak for 23 months, then in bottle for 13 months.

Cool, crisp air settles over the vines, and frost laces the rows in quiet stillness. Beneath the surface, something essential is happening.

This winter chill signals true dormancy — a necessary pause that protects the vines, preserves energy, and prepares them for the burst of spring growth to come. The cold helps regulate the vineyard’s natural rhythm, supporting balanced budbreak and the promise of another harmonious vintage.
