Sawyers Farm, is the 4th generation of our family to care for the land in Comanche County. Jon, Kay, Lawrence, and Geraldine set a fine example of being first and and most importantly a Christian, while caring for the land.
Phillip, along with wife Kristen, have 2 daughters Loretta(almost 2) and JoEllyn (4.5) who are the beginning of the next generation of Sawyers Farm. Aaron and Macy had a boy, Jeremiah Jon, in November 2019. It is hopeful these youngsters will continue to add to the rich history on the farm. We practice differently than than average man, which usually has us in conversation at the coffee shop.
We have almost entirely gone away from grain crops and focused solely on grazing animals. Hair sheep, laying hens, pigs “the ways grandpa” used to do it, and cows are the main parts of our operation. We do raise and sell show pigs that won’t break the budget. We have a growing emphasis in Berkshire Pork and the positive eating experience it provides.
The sheep herd complements the cows by eating things the cows don’t. If you haven’t had grass fed lamb, you’re missing out! We are on our way to totally eliminate herbicides. We are already into our fifth year of no pesticides. We strive to add a new enterprise to the farm every year. Two years we experimented with broiler chickens for sale (still not sure we have the labor to do this on a large scale). Aaron and Macy added bees to the operation 3 years ago and continue to try to grow this area.
