In 2022, the EPA issued a Stop Sale Order against Berkey for non-compliance with the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). Clearbrook, the company that actually formulates the filter, received its own stop-sale order. Production stopped. Black Berkey replacements became impossible to find.
We partnered directly with them to bring a new version to market. We launched the BOROUX Foundation Filter in November of 2023.
It is made by the same manufacturer, using the same activated carbon media and the same production methods, now independently certified by WQA to NSF/ANSI 42, 372, and 401 standards.
