We are an Oswego County organic food grower, growing especially for our CSA and local community. Growing a wide variety of seasonal produce and offering free range egg CSA shares as well. We took a break from lifting potatoes yesterday to lift a bed of to give them time to cure and turn dense starches into the sweet sugars we all love sweet potatoes for.

Many thanks to the many hands who helped with onions.
From seeding to planting to seemingly endless weeding to harvest and now onto curing and cleaning up, it's been a months long endeavor well paid off. Sometimes they made us want to cry, not because of the normal onion eye watering strength, but because of the backbreaking labor of love that goes into growing all these onions.
Onions are the first seeds we plant in early March and one of the last fresh vegetables available well into the winter. We haven't had to buy onions for our farm kitchen in over a decade!

Farmer Beth and put a dent in the garlic harvest today. As tradition would have it on one of the hottest days of July.
We didn't get nearly as much planted in the fall as we would have liked due to the relentless rain, but what we've got looks great and lots of big seed garlic for this fall's planting!

Sweet potato slips arrived today. They were supposed to be here Tuesday, so thankfully they look fantastic for how long they were in transit, but all the rain yesterday may make planting out of the question this evening. 2022 onion planting done!
Thanks a million to a couple of friends who helped get this daunting task done these past few days while Travis recovers from surgery.
Yesterday's much needed rain storm watering in all the plantings we've done over the last week.
Seed potatoes are here and will be planted soon with much thanks to for taking that trek to pick them up while we got more onions planted before the rain.
Thanks to some wonderful friends and family who are helping out while farmer Travis recovers from an emergency appendectomy. Our bodies sure have a funny way of telling us to take a break! Hoping to bring him home today.

Attention market customers:
While we're all set to start the market, we've decided to hold off one more week to let these beauties get a bit bigger for harvesting and have more to offer. Along with letting greens grow another week, we have folks available tomorrow morning to help get the new poly on the high tunnel which is a big priority and investment. I'll be sharing some of the progress as we tackle that tomorrow.

After eight seasons of high winds and snows it was past time for new poly for the
Fortunately not only had the best prices for the size we needed but also got it here in less than a week.
Until we can get some extra hands and a windless day the greens are getting some rain and unfiltered sunlight.
While helps mom in the greenhouse Travis has been getting beds in the field worked up so we can start planting all the things.
Beds in the greenhouses and high tunnels are filled with greens, scallions, radishes, herbs and more for some early crops to bring to the starting next weekend and for the first weeks of in June.

Hope everyone gets a chance to connect with mother earth a bit today and remember that she loves us!
These lettuce babies should be in the ground but the soil needed to dry out some and now warm back up. These are not the April showers we expected.
All the greens we planted last week are happy and snug under their row covers and will be some of the first crops we'll have in May when we're back to the for the season with plenty more on their way to the start of the season in June.

Despite the chill in the air now, we got to planting some beds in the greenhouse last week and tucked them all under row covers to protect from cold and pests.

Yesterday's heat thawed almost all the snow on the farm creating lots of mud and challenging our new drainage installed last year, and prompting the snowdrops to blossom. Spring is on her way!
It was almost too warm to work in the greenhouse but we managed and are set to start seeding onions this week.

Our newest high tunnel shedding snow like a champ, protecting the sweetest over wintered carrots.
Couldn't resist sharing. I had high hopes that their interest in helping would continue as they got older but our farm kids have less and less interest every year in helping poor old mom on the farm. They do love helping pick out seeds though!

After much deliberation and number crunching, this will be our last weekend at the market until spring. We simply don't have enough storage crops to sell after this rainy season to justify the expense.
CSA members don't worry, we have plenty to fill your shares for the fall season and will be contacting you to let you know where to pick up your shares in Syracuse as an alternative. And we will be taking special orders from others for the crops we do have in abundance such as garlic cayenne peppers and potatoes through the duration of the fall CSA season.

They ran to the groceries, they filled up their carts, They emptied the Tops and Price Chopper and Walmart, They panicked and fought and then panicked some more, Then they rushed to their homes and they locked all the doors. The food will be gone! The milk eggs and cheese! The yogurt! The apples! The green beans and peas! The stores have run out, now what will we do? They’ll be starving and looting and nothing to do! Then they paused, and they listened a moment or two. And they did hear a sound, rising over the fear, It started out far, then began to grow near. But this sound wasn’t sad, nor was it new, The farms were still doing what farms always do. Oswego folks, we will NOT be at the market this evening. 60mph winds and penny sized hail doesn't seem like a forecast I want to chance. Oswego CSA members, your shares will be delivered TOMORROW at Mother Earth Baby on Bridge St. Oswego market customers, feel free to call or message the farm with any special orders you'd like to have delivered tomorrow. We have lots of pickling cucumbers, slicers, and cippolini and sweet onions along with a bunch of other great veggies we harvested for today's market.
