After a lot of discussion and internal debate, we have made the very tough decision to take the season off from the Regional Market this year.
Some of you may have seen my post about our dealings with national grid reducing our access to acreage we've farmed for the past 13 years. While this isn't the only factor, it is a huge one. We will be focusing on maximizing production of a smaller variety of crops on a smaller tract of land, and staying closer to home, selling from our farm stand and local farmers market in pulaski and other outlets. We may decide to get a booth here and there at Regional as harvest dictates. But we can't justify the cost and commitment of the full lease, and our time to have a reduced crop variety to bring. This season will be an intense transition season, fine-tuning intensive growing practices on the land we have available and exploring alternative markets.
This place has been my home every Saturday from may through Oct since 2012 and even a couple winters. The fellow vendors and regular customers have become like family to me and the kids and we will miss all of you this summer. And although we love the market, it will be a bit of newfound freedom to free up Saturdays to spend with family, as oftentimes I have to decline activities because of my Fri and Saturday schedule surrounding harvest and vending.
This has been a long hard decision process with so many pros and cons. But the cons won.
I will be sharing as crops come in here if people want to place special orders to pick up on the farm, or possibly coordinate pick up when we are in the Syracuse area. A couple other Syracuse opportunities are in the works which I will also update as they arise.
