We have students in our program from the Marianas that are actively fund raising for relief. Water is of the highest priority. Please consider helping out these hard-hit communities from the recent Super Typhoon.

Heads up farmers — I took the OFRF organic farmer survey and thought I’d share it. They only run it every few years and actually use the data. It’s anonymous and helps shape research and support programs, so if you have time, I’d encourage you to add your perspective. It also includes a discount code for Johnny’s Seeds and a chance to win other giveaways.

It closes on Saturday, Feb. 28. www.ofrf.org/organicsurvey

Have you filled out the survey yet? Our 2025–2026 National Organic Farmer Survey will help us understand the challenges, priorities, and technical needs of farmers and ranchers across the country. When you complete the survey by Feb 28th, 2026, you’ll receive a Johnny’s Selected Seeds discount and a chance to win farm-related prizes, like FELCO pruners, Muck Boots, or a consultation with an organic farming expert.

If you're an organic or transitioning-to-organic farmer or rancher, want to hear from you! Responses are confidential, take about 25 minutes, and will help shape future research, resources, and programs directly supporting organic farms.

Look for an email from us in your inbox to participate, or reach out to communications [at] ofrf [dot] org to request a copy.

The Pullman Community Garden at Koppel Farm is looking for a good home for this fiberglass greenhouse. It is a one-piece structure with one door and roof vents. Approximately 9 feet by 15 feet. You can easily go take a look to see the structure. Contact by email if interested.

Spinach is coming along nicely with the warmer than normal winter. Getting a spray to control grey mold on today. Potassium Bicarbonate added to water helps with winter grey mold as well as powdery mildew that tends to be more active in the fall. I think we're on track to start harvesting by February this year.
And micro greens are back in the greenhouse! Check out the Moscow Food Co-op produce department for all our varieties, including some trial bags of arugula.

Got a break in the weather and it's time to get more patches on the plastic! What a week...gusts over 80mph on Wednesday and then almost another 2 inches of rain. We replaced the billow ropes on the downwind sides before Wednesday's storm and that all held up great. Last night's wind was hitting the high 50's and no new damage.
Check out this cover crop though! Amazing growth with our warm fall weather. I think we'll have to start trimming it back.

It was warm, wet, and windy yesterday. The farm hit a high of 56 degrees last night, recorded .75 inches of rain, and had a peak wind gust to 52 mph. This is the second big windstorm in the last week and it really takes a toll on the high tunnels. We had a 2.5' tear in our big house from last nights event. Hope we don't have too much more this winter!
