McMillan Farms

McMillan Farms We are a first generation family farm that is farming for both ourselves and our community.

We offer a variety of started plants, fruits, vegetables, herbs, baked goods, and honey in our roadside stand and we also raise Idaho Pasture Pigs.

Just poppin' by to say hey πŸ‘‹πŸ»

I ended up not having any extra plants to sell this year and since none of our chickens are laying just yet, we haven't had any eggs either. So the farm stand has still been closed so far this year. But hopefully we'll open later in the season when we start to get produce, but we'll see. Max was fixing my vegetable garden, ran into a *bit* of an issue, and everything is just kind of at a standstill in the garden right now. And I haven't really had any extra time lately to take some pictures around the farm, which is why I've been absent for a while here.

But, what we HAVE been up to around here is working on the flower gardens, hatching more baby chicks, taking care of the animals of course, and Max finally got a tractor! The tractor is going to help us TREMENDOUSLY around here... once it's fixed. πŸ˜… (That's the issue we ran into with my vegetable garden, by the way.) We still have LOTS more to do this year, and I will try to get better at posting on our social media again.

And here's a picture of one of our lil' chickens. The jury is still out on whether or not this one is a hen or a rooster since it can be tricky to tell with mixed breeds. Those feathers make me think rooster, but the comb makes me think hen. We'll see! πŸ“

My sweet Pia has gone to goat heaven.

When I would go out to the barn and she would see me or hear me coming, she'd often yell, sometimes faint, and start her journey to the barn to come say hello if she was in the pasture. Between her slow speed and the occasional distraction of something yummy in the pasture (and once a butterfly flying near her), it would take her a while to get to the barn, but that was okay. She was worth the wait. I'm going to miss that entire routine of hers.

As I was taking my oldest to the bus stop this morning, I stopped to look at the goat pasture so I could say good morning to Pia specifically as I did every morning that she was out, only to realize again that she's no longer there. I'm going to miss yelling good morning to her and hearing her yell back just to continue eating.

I'm also going to miss her fainting at the most random things; bird calls, excitement over new hay, going out to pasture after the door was closed all night, the rain. But for some reason, she wouldn't faint at the things you'd expect like a crack of thunder or if you tried to spook her. Or if you bumped into her after she had been standing directly next to your legs, since she hated personal space.

Most of all, I'm just simply going to miss her. To someone else, Pia may have been "just a goat" but to me, she was so incredibly special. She was the sweetest, kindest, friendliest goat that we have ever had the pleasure of having on our farm. She's always been my favorite from the day we brought her home. I already miss her terribly. The farm will never be the same without her.

Spring has finally sprung 🌷 so it's time for our annual post introducing our farm and to talk about the upcoming open season.

So hi πŸ‘‹πŸ» I'm Rhianne, and my husband, Max, and I run this little farm. We moved here from Michigan over three years ago with our two kids. We chose Pennsylvania simply because we love it here, then we just kind of ended up in cute lil' Punxsutawney and started our farm. πŸ“

We had to downsize a bit on McMillan Farms this past Fall, but we plan on this year being a year of rebuilding and growth. I believe it to be bad luck to broadcast your plans, so I won't spoil them. You'll just have to wait and see. πŸ‘€ But while I plan to plead the fifth on our long list of goals or projects for this year, I can offer a bit of insight of what we plan to keep the same for this year...

πŸ…The Farm StandπŸ… - We aren't open yet, but we will open for a short time in a few weeks for plants. Then we will be closing the stand again until the summer when we start to get produce from the garden. Then baked goods and cut flowers are on the back burner for this year. I might do them, I might not (but you can order these things special, just send us a message to get set up). And finally, we will not have honey, duck eggs, chicken eggs this year.

🍐The Fruit Trees🍐 - We will have pears available for pick up by the half or full bushel around late August / early September. To be added to this year's wait-list, send us a message!

πŸ“The LivestockπŸ“ - We will not have any baby goats this year. We had to re-home most of our goat herd this past Fall and Winter, including our buck so we were not able to breed the does we had left. We had to also re-home the rest of our chickens and ducks, but we do have some plans for chickens this year. The pigs are doing great though!

I'm excited to be back! And I'm excited (and hopeful) for this brand new year for us. Here's to our fourth year! 🍻

We're slowly starting to come out of hibernation over here. (Of course our version of hibernation is getting caught up on inside projects that were neglected because of farm work.) We'll see y'all soon! Spring will be here before we know it.

Don't worry; we're still here! We're just taking a little break from social media during our off season. For now, we're just making plans for next year and making it through winter. We might post here and there until we open for next year, but we'll see.

We hope everyone had a great holiday season and has a very happy new year. πŸ₯‚ See y'all in a couple of months!
