Allder School Berry Farm has plenty of cempasuchil (marigolds) to sell as ofrendas for hispanos who wish to celebrate el Dia de la Muerte. Can't sell pawpaws this rainy, windy morning so my wife is eating French Toast with pawpaw chunks on top. Delish.

Our pawpaws are excellent this year. They're big, aromatic and luscious. Eat them out of hand, use the pulp to make pawpaw pudding or ice cream, or drop a dollop of pulp into a smoothie. Come see them at the Saturday Leesburg Farmers Market. We'll also have lots of bitter melon and a few figs. Come see us on Saturday (let's hope it doesn't rain).

Allder School Berries will not attend the Leesburg Farmers Market or the Gilberts Corner Farmers Market tomorrow because of the expected inclement weather. As a matter of fact, ASB will not attend its farmers markets until next spring. I want to thank all of our wonderful customers who've patronized us this past year. Earl and I have enjoyed meeting and serving each and every one of you. We look forward to seeing you again next spring. Thank you. Warren Howell.

Hot & steamy weather is not good for too many vegetables but here's two that like it--Bitter Melon and Malabar Spinach. Both are semi-tropical but that works OK in Loudoun summers. There are two types of Bitter Melons--Chinese and Indian. They can be very beneficial for your health, especially diabetes. Malabar Spinach is happy in hot summer. Doesn't bolt like regular spinach. We'll have both tomorrow, August 6, at the Leesburg Saturday Farmers Market, from 8 am to noon. See them below.

Last year Mother Nature gave me cicadas. This year she's giving me tons of blueberries. This Saturday we'll have special deals on the Blues. Big packages--3 lbs for $20 and 5 lbs for $32. And more! Our Jumbo Blues are here. These are a big hit with kids, and Mom and Dad too.

Allder School Berries is back at the Gilberts Corner Saturday Farmers Market. The cold winds and frigid mornings are gone and warm weather is back. We have many plants (strawberry, blueberry, black raspberry blackberry) ready to go into the ground now as well as others (fig, ginger, turmeric) that still need more protection. We also have some of Carmen's delectable honey, ready to put into your cereal, yogurt or on your pancakes.

Allder School Berries is ready to come back to the Leesburg Saturday Morning Farmers Market. We're brushing off the cold winds and frigid mornings and welcoming the return of warm weather. We have some plants that are ready to go into the ground--strawberries and blackberries--and have others to keep in the house for a few more weeks--ginger plants and fig trees. We also have some of Carmen's delectable honey, ready to put into your cereal or on your pancakes.
