Cherry crop now in and processed. A disappointing 140 quarts in total. Looking to invest some time improving yield on trees. Better pruning, fertilizing and perhaps more pollinators? Wendy has canned over 60 quarts. On to the raspberries!

The Sheepigs have arrived! Looking like they were developed by a geneticist that wanted spare ribs and wool socks they are actually a heritage breed pig from Hungary called Mangalitsa. The Mangalitsa have been called the Kobe beef of pork and are prized for their taste and the quality of their lard and bacon. Unlike standard breeds that are ready for market in 9 months or less these take 18 months to reach maturity. I was lucky to find three little guys that were already 9 months old so they should be finished by December after they have enjoyed a summer and fall of the excesses from our garden and orchard and the white oak acorns, hickory nuts they forage for in their 2+ acre enclosure. Two are already spoken for so if you are interested in the last one let me know.
