Owner Robert Schubert was building on the tradition of spectacular organically grown vegetables when he purchased 10 acres of Wheatland Farms from DC farmers market veterans Chip and Susan Planck. In its first season at the Courthouse Farmers' Market in Arlington and the University of Maryland market, Lydia's Fields quickly became a go-to stop for shoppers wanting reasonably priced delicious heirloom tomatoes, arugula, lettuce, turnips, beets, squash and other greens.

Happy Spring, everyone!

Time to prepare all of Lydia's Fields annual vegetable growing areas for spring/summer cover crop. We will focus on selling our perennials, including asparagus, to the Lovettsville Co-op, Magnolia's at the Mill, the Wine Kitchen, and the Polished Foxx.

The Lydia’s Fields box truck left the farm yesterday. It needs a new turbo, so the buyer chose not to drive it.

I don’t know about you, but we are so excited that the Lovettsville Food Cooperative ( ) is open now! We are sad that we won’t be selling at the farmers market any longer this fall, but we are supplying the new food co-op with some of our produce, including these gorgeous and yummy sweet potatoes. I never really liked fig newtons. They just tasted like healthy, wannabe cookies. Thus, I never considered the thought of eating figs, until I moved to Virginia. Here at Lydia’s Fields, we have a small orchard of fig trees (including but not limited to Celeste & Hearty Chicago varieties). Fresh figs over a sweet and juicy flavor that are perfect for preserves, tarts, eating just as is, and many other projects. Come visit us next weekend to try ours!
