Last week we were scrambling to protect the buds from 25 degrees and a hard frost and today, I’m rigging shade cloth to keep them cool from 90 degrees a sun. Virginia in the spring is a rollercoaster 🤪 How are you enjoying this June weather in April?

In our efforts to clean up invasive species and leave our little corner of the world a little better than we found it, we had researchers from Penn State and a Virginia Tech enologist collecting lantern fly egg masses for research today and the inoculating the invasive Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima) with oyster mushrooms to study the effects. Science is cool and I love using the farm as a living classroom. Happy Earth Day, flower friends! 🍄🌎💙

This heat has the flowers popping faster than I can harvest them but these fluffy narcissus are the best! Early spring CSA starts this week 🙌

Hooray for the daffodiks, but I’m really excited doe the Virginia Bluebells!! 💙 These native perennials were planted last year and I’m so excited to see them popping up after the drought. The deep purple foliage is so pretty before it turns green.

Who knew that happiness is as simple as getting your hands dirty? Gardeners knew 😉 (have to go to IG for the reel 🙃)

Flipping beds in the flower field by amending soil with a little boost of plant food fertilizer, rotating my crops to prevent disease, getting those plant babies in the ground and soaking up that warm March sunshine ☀️
