Lakeside PrimaLuna

Old winter sly, had plans her own,
She wrote new verse, lightness sown.
Nights and nights so long and cold,
Goodnight’s sleep had long been sold!

On January third, beneath a moon bright as day,
Came Ray’s small star—too soon, one could say.
Born not to white clover, lark, or balmy June,
But delivered under new year’s frosty moon.

Milk-chocolate bay with dapples new,
Daybreak shone on my new friend true.
‘Lakeside PrimaLuna’, our filly winter-born,
Sturdy one of snowy storm and silver morn.

She’s braved the old barn’s rattling sigh,
And several nights of northern wind on high.
Those who greet a world hard as ice,
Are surely made of love and sacrifice.

Her mother’s nicker hushed in falling snow.
She too was forged where courage grows.
For once our Ray was just an orphaned thing,
No mother’s love, no shelter for to cling;

Now fate, grown kind, has made us glad.
Ray is the trusty dam she herself had never had.
To watch her shield, to hear her guide,
La beauté maternelle, words can’t confide.

A circle closed, leche tierna and snow,
Her love once lost, has come to grow.
Such a gift no list could dare to hold,
Memoria preciada, for when I'm worn and old.

Now every day, when gates unchain,
‘Winter’ flies beside her mother, ‘In the Rain’
With legs for days, she’s fierce and fair,
As with time, she’s meant for running, without care.

New hooves a-fleet on icy ground,
Caligae nive-politae, joy is finally found.
If winter nights such marvels yield,
What new admiratio might lie in summer’s field?

Prae Gaudio, now having met this moonlit one,
La dulce espera, our fear is mostly done.
For ‘Sparkling Cider’ and ‘In the Rain’,
Sœrs d’orphelinat, await still another crane.

Our sweet Cider, nunc vigilamus, all-do-care,
Holds secrets yet the spring must share;
But, the wait is changed, faith more sure:
In this equigenetic… Yamnaya pastoral life, wild and pure.
