Historic farmhouse renovation win: turning a door into a window has been one of my favorite changes so far. Inside is an office space tucked behind the kitchen, and the biggest difference is how much road noise has been reduced.

For a stretch of time this was actually treated as a front entry. The stairwell was moved forward here, made incredibly steep, and created a tiny bedroom upstairs. Once we shifted the stairs back to a comfortable angle, it opened the second floor into a much better flow for our family.

šŸ” It’s one of those changes that honors the old bones of the house while making everyday life feel quieter, brighter, and more functional.

What looks like farmhouse folk art today was once a dividing line: blessings for the Fancy Dutch, bad luck to the Plain.

The Fancy Dutch (German-speaking Lutherans) painted hex signs on barns as bold, decorative blessings. Meanwhile, the Plain Dutch (Amish & Mennonites) rejected them as too superstitious, too flashy.

🌟 Heritage, superstition, and design — all written on the barn walls.

🄘 Kitchen Reno Progress: Temporary Kitchen #2!
Living in a farmhouse gut job means… lots of improvising. We’re pressing pause here to set up a second temporary kitchen while the dream farmhouse kitchen is still on the horizon.

It’s not glamorous, but it’s real. And we know some of you are living this same chaos too.

✨ Finding meaning in the meaningless. ✨
ā€œOne must imagine Sisyphus happy.ā€

The last line of Albert Camus’ The Myth of Sisyphus — a reminder that even in the endless, the repetitive, the absurd, we can still choose joy. Camus saw Sisyphus not as a figure of despair, but of defiance: pushing the boulder and smiling anyway.

For me, it comes down to three truths:
• Acceptance over resistance — the weight of daily tasks doesn’t vanish, but fighting them only makes them heavier.
• Joy in the everyday — meaning isn’t at the top of the mountain, but in the act itself.
• Defiance through happiness — choosing joy in the face of futility is its own quiet rebellion.

This sign was handmade by (Bryan Kleiner) — whose videos I love just as much as his craftsmanship. His work feels especially resonant today, with my heart heavy for the city that raised me, Minneapolis.

It was Annika’s 12th birthday weekend and it was packed with joy. šŸŽ‰
Friday was all thrills at Dorney Park with her friends, followed by a special dinner.

šŸ“š Saturday AM in Emmaus, PA was full of charm. We explored adorable shops in the main triangle—first stop: . While chatting with the shopkeeper’s dad about Haruki Murakami (my fave is Kafka on the Shore; his was Wind-Up Bird Chronicle), a stranger joined in. He’d just finished Norwegian Wood and wondered what was up with all the wells šŸ˜„. So here’s my takeaway: tell more people about the authors move you.
Bonus: we scored a stack of vintage Nancy Drew mysteries!

šŸ„— Lunch at , a hidden gem for the health-conscious foodie. I had The Adam—avocado, red onion, and lemon segments on rustic toast with a delicate olive oil-dressed rocket. It was clean, bright, and absolutely perfect. The glassware? Divine.

šŸ›ļø Ended the stroll at , a sweet new boutique. Their taglineā€”ā€œfor those that understand life is truly about the little thingsā€ā€”isn’t just marketing. It’s a lens for every piece in the shop, from Americana swimwear and sparkly jewelry to relaxed ready-to-wear. We picked up a William Murray shirt for JB and had such a lovely chat with the owner.

šŸŽ” Next stop: Milford Township Carnival with . Annual corn dog and lemonade, rides, and smiles for miles.

šŸ“ Sunday = in Coopersburg. Their new store is amazing—I’m obsessed with the JalapeƱo Pickled Asparagus. Trust me on this.

šŸ“š Final slides: one of Annika’s gifts—she can now turn any book loan into a legit mini-library with due date cards and all. Cutest thing ever.

Swipe to see where it all began šŸ›āœØ
Our second attempt at the owner’s ensuite is officially underway—and this time, we’re going all in on function and flow.

We moved the door so it opens right across from the closet (because getting ready should feel like a breeze, not a maze). At the heart of it all: a centered vanity. To the left: the WC. To the right: a full wet bath with a shower and soaking tub. Dreams? Delivered.

It’s all part of our Ever Ready Farm renovation—where we’re learning (again šŸ˜…) that second time’s the charm.

Final swipe is a throwback to what this room looked like when we first bought the house—tap to time travel. šŸ› ļøšŸ”šŸ’«

Scamp, First of His Name, arrived unexpectedly with Amadora, our newly adopted cat, and has been taking center stage ever since. Born in a cozy spot beside Anni's bed, Scamp has become inseparable from Lumi, our loyal Great Pyrenees, and Tsuga, our other adopted kitten. He has a knack for being in the right place at the right time, whether that's snuggling up with family members or springing onto my shoulders from the fridge, and his playful, affectionate, and humorous nature has earned him a top spot in my heart, all before reaching his first birthday. Scampers. Mister Scamperson. Shhkamp. Shrimp Scampi.

7 months ago, this was all tangled brush and brambles.
ā €
We cleared nearly an acre by hand, and now we’re watching nature take over—with ferns popping up everywhere and native greens creeping in.
ā €
We’re planning low-maintenance paths, prairie grasses, and native flowers to support pollinators and biodiversity.
ā €
Next up: digging French drains for better water flow and planting fruit trees alongside them for passive irrigation.
ā €
Slowly but surely, we’re restoring this land with intention.
ā €
Swipe to see how far it’s come!
ā €
Would you go full wildflower meadow here—or keep some open space?
