Cold weather means it’s time for the hoop house grown radishes!  Why should you care?  Thanks for asking. The hoop house gives these beauties some added protection from the elements, meaning you don’t just get a tasty radish that’s nice to look at, but you also get a beautiful salad worth of greens on top. For added bug and cold protection, these unsprayed veg are tucked in under a cloth cover.  This week, we’ll have lots of white icicle (pictured), some rainbow radish, daikons, sunchoke, collards, kale, salad mix, baby bok, pea shoots, herbs, decorative gourds, and winter squash.  See you Saturday!

Come early to tomorrow morning to beat the heat and find some more produce you won’t find elsewhere … like these beautiful little paprika peppers and some fresh edamame. Also, we’re clearing the smaller garlic bulbs from the curing racks, so only $1 per bulb tomorrow!  And lots of mini tomatoes and medium heirlooms and a bit of melon and a limited amount of greens and somehow the squash keeps producing so we’ll keep bringing it. Herbs, okra, lemongrass, peppers, eggplant, squash blossoms, pea shoots.  Limited quantities on some things.  Be there. This might be a peak.

Have you met the garden peach?  Nope, not a stone fruit. Just a strange and fragile little heirloom tomato with fuzzy skin and low acidity. Yes, seriously, it’s got fuzzy skin and it blushes a bit when fully ripe. Crazy.  You’ll never see them at the grocery store, but you can pick them up (along with a plethora of other mini tomatoes) this Saturday

We hope your all enjoying the drop in temperature. It’s been a bit hot and cranky on the farm. Even the frogs are getting irritated with having to irrigate everything. Come on out to market this Saturday. We have garlic, peppers and tiny eggplant. If you tell the kids it’s a small variety cultivated by fairy’s they might eat there vegetables. #🧄 #🫑

07/21/2022

Did you know that nearly half your salad mix is grown 3 feet off the ground in 5 inches of soil?   The lettuce will always be in normal dirt beds, but the fancier baby salad additions are grown in tabletop frames full of a compost based soil mixture, turned and smoothed into fresh beds weekly. These will be used for mustard greens, kales, chards, herbs and more, all of which are seeded, cultivated, and harvested by hand.  All this with zero synthetic fertilizer and no pesticides/herbicides/fungicides, meaning the mix is clean and ready to be enjoyed fresh out of the bag with minimal handling.  The greens will change with the season, so right now the mix includes amaranth, purslane, red giant mustard, curly parsley, shiso, quinoa, pea shoots, orach, and more.  Check out the current salad this Saturday, but come early to beat the heat and help us sell out!

07/19/2022

Did you know we harvest all our summer greens before 7am? The lettuce is cut before the sun even hits it, then plunged into a cold water bath, spun dry, and stored in the walk in cooler to be mixed and bagged on Friday for Saturday Doylestown Farmers Market. Most of our greens are cut on Thursdays and Fridays, but this week we’re cutting a bit early to keep them from going bitter in the heat. Our biweekly summer plantings of lettuce are started indoors under lights to give them an easier time and then transplanted out on a milder evening using water conserving drip tape to give them a drink. Then every week, we have a fresh batch of heads to cut, tasting each variety as we go to ensure their quality. We’ll try to keep it up all summer while looking forward to a cool fall. Enjoy the mix and stay tuned for additional info about the weirder non-lettuce greens that make the salad truly unique.

My go-to at the Doylestown Farmers Market!
So excited to be offering Pan's Forest first greens of the season this year. We met Daniel, one of the owners at the farmers' market. He became one of our first volunteers at the farm and our market manager for a while. We have worked together on and off for the last ten years.
Beautiful, Dan. Thanks 😊
