A young student from Commerce, Easton Freeman, has died as a result of injuries suffered in a UTV crash Tuesday evening. Tanya Briley, Easton’s great aunt, has set up a GoFundMe account for the family for funeral and other expenses at gofundme.com/f/support-eastons-family-after-tragedy.
She said on the site Wednesday, "Easton was a joyful kid that would bring light to every room; he brought smiles and laughter to each person he met. He loved the outdoors and spending time planting flowers and hunting deer in the fall. Easton was a loved member of this community and we all know he’ll be missed."
Officials at Commerce Public Schools addressed the student's death in a letter to students and parents Wednesday morning. The letter reads in part, "Our youngest students have lost a classmate and friend. Our teachers and staff have lost a bright, loving child who brought energy and light into the classroom. In times like these, words feel painfully inadequate. But what we do know is this: Commerce is a close-knit community, and in moments of sorrow, we lean on one another with compassion and strength. In light of this tragedy, counseling services and support will be available across all campuses for any student or staff member in need."
