Just to explain the closing:

We have not had a profitable month in a year, as restaurant traffic (industry wide) took a nose dive following the "Liberation Day" tariffs, and it still hasn't recovered. On top of that, the prices we pay for everything have increased quite a bit. It seemed like things were picking up in February (usually the slowest month), but gas prices appear to be pulling it back down again (restaurant traffic always takes a dive when gas prices jump). The drop in traffic over the past year has been significant enough to take us from decent profits to substantial losses.

We were planning to keep the store afloat until either things picked back up or the lease expired this time next year, but our landlord (Commercial Properties, Inc) is forcing to move more quickly. They have suddenly and aggressively started demanding we make highly expensive repairs, and if we do not, they will do the repairs themselves and pass along the cost with a 15% markup.

The problem is that I've hired multiple licensed professionals to perform the repairs they claim we need, and they have all consistently said there is nothing to repair and everything is properly maintained. The landlord responded by sending us a notice that we are violating the lease by not completing these bogus repairs, so they are preparing to withdraw several thousands of dollars from our account when they auto-withdraw our monthly rent.

As best I can tell, this is a roundabout way of hiking our rent, since our current rate is contractually locked in, but since we have been running losses for a year, we simply cannot afford to absorb these costs. This is forcing us to close shop rather abruptly so that we can settle our other liabilities and pay our employees for their last few shifts without defaulting.

We appreciate everybody who enjoyed our food and gave us their business, but we simply can no longer afford to keep our doors open.
