Hey friends, if you haven’t caught on, I don’t post much over here on my personal page. All the good stuff is over here on my other page! Today was a hard and sad message to share

I wish this was a happy post about a heifer who couldn’t wait to be a mom. Daphne is a little bit older for her first calf, but none of her previous owners could afford to breed her apparently. When she came here, she would stand and let calves nurse off of her empty udder. There didn’t appear to be any complications in her pregnancy but yesterday after a nine month wait she delivered a stillborn. It’s heartbreaking and no matter the amount of death that we deal with on the ranch, it doesn’t ever get much easier. We’re sad for the life lost and the potential that calf had.
She kept returning all day to the place that she calved her baby looking for him. 😢
I’ve had to learn to establish some mental and emotional boundaries within myself to be able to cope and not get stuck in the hard part of this lifestyle. Just wanna keep it real for y’all.
Praying she settles into milking well the next few days ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹šŸ™šŸ¼

Next round of Cornish Cross meat birds are here! Like all babies, you wish they’d stay so tiny and cute. Our mild fall and winter temps mean we can raise these little guys year roundšŸ„°šŸ¤—

A conversation with my sister in Canada recently brought up a question that gets to the heart of what we do: what about vitamin C in the winter? Wouldn’t we all get scurvy without citrus?

It’s a thoughtful question, but the truth is, God’s creation provides for us right where we are.

The Truth About Winter Vitamin C

•God’s Provision: Foods like potatoes, kale, Brussels sprouts, and sauerkraut are packed with more vitamin C than an orange and are all native to colder climates.

•The Power of Preservation: Our ancestors understood this wisdom, preserving the harvest through canning, fermentation, and root cellaring—connecting us to a more intentional way of life.

•A Shift in Perspective: Eating locally isn’t about deprivation; it’s about abundance. We can trust in the provision of the land rather than relying on a fragile globalized system.

Eating locally is a tangible act of faith, a way to move beyond a fragile global system and re-establish a deeper rhythm. This is what we mean when we talk about our mission: anchoring you to the very heartbeat of creation through your food ā¤ļøāš“ļø

It’s a girl! šŸ’—
Fall calving season has begun on our small family ranch here in Arizona. Dolce ( meaning sweet in Italian) has given us our first Jersey/Guernsey cross with a little heifer that we are naming Delizia ( sweet treat ). We’re nicknaming her Izi and she’s already living up to her name as she’s such a joy and pleasure! šŸ’—
