As we wrap up our 20th year in business, we wanted to take a moment to resurface the story behind Fratelli’s—the people, the journey, and the passion that brought us here, and continues to carry us forward. ❤️
Take two brothers with different last names who spent much of their lives oceans apart, united by a shared passion for baking—and you get Fratelli’s Pastry Shop.
Giovanni “John” Milone and Pino Santarpia’s journey started long before 2005. At 16, John stayed behind in the U.S. while his family returned to Turin, Italy with his younger brother Pino. For decades, they lived separate lives—John perfecting his craft in American bakeries, and Pino building a life in Italy—until they reunited in 2000 and decided to take a leap of faith.
In March 2005, they purchased a building in Quincy and hoped for the best. After months of hard work and 15+ hour days (with John’s wife Sue working tirelessly alongside them while raising their two daughters), Fratelli’s opened in July—and the rest is history.
From those early days of just three employees to now a team of 70+, from Quincy (2005) to Weymouth (2007) and Taunton (2019), one thing has never changed: our commitment to quality, family, and going above and beyond for every customer. ALWAYS.
Pino has been out of the business for the past 16 years due to a Multiple Sclerosis diagnoses. Pino continues to bravely battle, and for the last 9 years has been living at The Boston Home in Dorchester. We are endlessly grateful for the incredible care and support he receives there. He is truly loved by all and John’s endless sweet surprises certainly don’t hurt his case. His spirit remains a part of Fratelli’s every single day. 💕🥰
Today, with the next generation—Lauren and Emily—helping lead the way, we’re proud to continue what John and Pino started.👏🏻
