Hi Friends,
I had a farm owners worst tragedy last night and have decided Im getting out of chickens. The neighbors dog got in my fenced yard and killed 1/2 of my birds, all but one was a d'Uccle, and most of them were my girls. I thought they were safe, but Im realizing now that unless I keep them locked in their coops 24/7, they will never be safe, and I dont want them to live in little boxes. The dog in question now knows how to get over/under the fence. I still dont know how it got in. Aside from telling me to shoot it if I see it again, they dont plan on doing anything. So at this point I feel like Im just waiting for the next massacre. Some of you know that I lost my mom 2 weeks ago, and I just cant handle this right now. I will not be replacing any of them, and since I only have 1 hen left, I can no longer do egg sales. I am just going to enjoy the babies I have left.
Debbie's Home For Disadvantaged Girls will also no longer be taking in rescues.
I appreciate yalls support over the years. I absolutely loved sharing the d'Uccle and Serama breeds with you. They are truly special birds.
Much love,
Raeann
