No one is thinking about planting trees right now but spring is not far away. What to do right now?

At this time your chestnut trees should be going dormant. Yellow or brown leaves at the bottom of the tree are working their way up to to top of the tree. Hulls have all opened and chestnuts deposited on the ground.

Although most people consider spring the time to plant, right now is the best time to transplant a dicidious tree. The tree is no longer pushing energy up and out towards flowers, leaves, and fruit, but rather pushing all its energy down into a stronger root base. Plant now and when spring arrives your trees will be established and ready for the summer months.

Fall transplanting time is nearly upon us. Fall is an excellent time to transplant chestnut trees when they are dormant. Fall planting requires no fertalizer, less water and there is no w**d competition. When spring arrives your trees will be established and ready for the summer season.

Wild Life Nursery now has a supply of chestnut trees for sale. All plants are year and a half old, three gallon container stock, 5'-7' high, offered for $25.00. Currently we have pure Chinese trees as well as two types of hybrids, Wildlife and Timber. The pure chinese offer a large chestnut while the two hybrids offer a smaller nut. All are heavy producers that will yield yearly. Expect to see nut production starting at three years old with a "crop" at five years. All three varieties are an excellent food plot tree or wildlife attractant while the pure chinese are alse a good option for human consumption. Chestnut trees do not self polinate. A minimum of two trees are necessary for nut production and four to six to obtain optimum pollination. Inventory is currently limited to 200 trees and fall transplanting is just around the corner.
