Here are a few new things I'll be showing as the featured artist at Fontana Home this coming Saturday. I was able to complete several spalted maple platters for the show. These platters are between 11" and 12" in diameter and are finished with the same high end oil/wax food safe finish I use on the bowls. Adding a small walnut bowl is a great compliment. Hope to see you Saturday. --Norm

I have a big day coming up soon, on Saturday, April 4th I have the privilege of being the featured artist at Fontana Home in Fontana WI from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. My focus for this show will be featuring by black walnut turned bowls. Over the past winter I've experimented with various shapes and styles to bring out the natural beauty of the wood. In addition, I'll also be showing charcuterie boards and keepsake boxes (small bowls with lids). So come out to Fontana Home and see my work in person since pictures don't do justice to the workmanship. I hope to see you there! --Norm

The last several weeks, I've been exploring some new designs. Here are two prototypes of "keepsake" boxes, one in white oak and the other in black walnut. They are about 5 1/2" in diameter and 2 1/2" in height, excluding the finial.

In my prior posting, I stated that I planned on showing my work at the upcoming Kenosha Art Association’s June art show, however I just received a notice that they are not hosting a show this year. Bummer! I’ll have to find another show around that time. I’ll keep you updated.

Here are the latest solid wood black walnut bowls I just finished. The "sunburst" pattern in the sapwood (lighter) portion of the bowl creates a dramatic and rare contrast to the traditional dark walnut look. Nature did this all by itself, nothing was added by me in the finishing pattern of the bowls. This is truly one of the most remarkable patterns I have uncovered. Once sanded, I apply a high end oil/wax finish to the bowl that is food safe, non-toxic, waterproof and should last for years. I have compared this finish to other various finishes for being water repellent, and none of them come close in comparison.

As with all of my bowls, don't be afraid to use them. Salads, dry foods and the like are all compatible, or just use as a display piece. Clean with a damp cloth and let the bowl dry. Never immerse any wood bowl in water or use in a dishwater. Refresh the finish with any good quality butcher block oil and it should last a long time.

I'm available for a private showing of these and all my other items by appointment. Once again, I plan on displaying at the Kenosha Art Association's show in early June, and will show these and similar items assuming they don't get sold before then.

Cheers! -- Norm

The Holidays are upon us and time to think about others. If that includes gift giving, please know that Berryville Farm Woodworks still has a great selection of hand made unique wooden bowls. With material sustainably sourced from our woods in Somers, WI, the bowls are all one of a kind, made from black walnut, maple, cherry or a combination of these woods. I use a high end oil/wax food safe finish that should last for years without needing refreshing. If you see something you like, but prefer a different wood, a custom bowl can be crafted. Showings by appointment, and shipping is available with shared cost. Thanks for supporting our farm and Happy Holidays to all. --Norm

Our 2025 honey harvest is complete and our bees produced a remarkable quantity of honey once again this year. I hope it's due to the several acres of red clover we cultivate specifically for that purpose. In spite of the huge increases for glass jars, bottles and the bees themselves, I'm able to hold our pricing at last year's levels of $10 for one pound bottles and $20 for 2 pound jars. If you would like order honey, contact me by texting 262-498-6648. Thanks for supporting our farm. --Norm

September has arrived and among all other things, it's also time for the Hawthorn Hollow Art Fair. Berryville Farm Woodworks will once again be showing our latest woodworking creations. New this year is our collection of black walnut multi colored bowls. I first displayed these at the Kenosha Art Association's art fair last June and they were a great hit. Come to the art fair early for the best selection. The fair runs from 10:00 am till 4:00 pm, and the early weather forecast is for a sunny with mild temperatures, should be an excellent day! Hope to see you there. --Norm

It's been a busy winter at the woodworks with our focus on the fabrication of wooden bowls. We're getting ready for two art shows this season with the first being the Kenosha Art Association's show on June 1st in Kenosha's Civic Center Park, and the second at Hawthorn Hollow on September 6th. Last year was our first entry into the Kenosha Art Association's show and we won BEST OF SHOW! At both shows we'll have an assortment of our wooden bowls, cutting boards, charcuterie boards and small tables and benches. Take a look at our "Photos" for a sampling of our work and come to the shows to see the real thing. Thanks, --Norm

This is reminder to all of our loyal customers from the past and potential new customers. WE HAVE PERMANENTLY CLOSED OUR STRAWBERRY PATCH. As of the COVID lockdowns we ceased our strawberry production and have no plans to resume this enterprise. Going forward we still plan on offering local honey in season and will be focusing our efforts on Berryville Farm Woodworks.

Thanks for your support.
