The goats did well at fair this year! All of our kids finished in the top half of the market class and one doe took barn princess. But the real story- as always is the two-legged kids!
My 4H club hit way above their weight with some champions and reserve champions in meat goats, lambs, swine, and rabbits. And the kids who bought market goats from our club and others all did great! I was so pleased to get to judge a few of these hardworking showmen in the master showmanship round robin.
We are headed to the Clatsop Fair Saturday to see a few more kids and their goats.
What a privilege it’s been to work with all of the amazing youth showmen and their families over the years!

All of this years kids have found homes with some fantastic 4H and FFA showmen! Good luck to all who are taking Apiary Hills kids to your fairs this year!
This was our last year - for real this time- of producing market does and wethers for youth showmen. We’ll be breeding in June and July- with special 4H and FFA pricing for bred does, yearlings primarily. All are registered and their offspring will be registrable. If you’d like to get in on that, let me know.
We also plan to sell most of our mature does bred, off the farm or at a production sale in the fall.
Otherwise all of our goats except a few special ones who will live out their days here will be gone.
It’s been the joy of a lifetime to raise so many wonderful animals for such great youth showmen but it’s time to find our next adventure- no farm sitter required.

Busy start to the kidding season. Four does have kidded so far the last few days- Tortuga, Lichen, Spite, and Azumi. Lichen and Azumi had triplets with 1 boy and 2 girls each. Tortuga and Spite each added two girls.
Lichen gave us our first true breech birth and it was a challenge but between Jon and I we were able to get the baby back down the birth canal and grab legs. Not a process I hope to ever enjoy again- way too stressful for all involved. But everyone seems no worse for the wear.
