Carolina Quarterly Brew Off

Carolina Quarterly Brew Off A quarterly NC homebrew competition that stretches the boundaries of homebrew competitions as you know them

To keep the competition fresh, exciting, and challenging the competition observes a rotating, style-oriented format. There will be a mini-competition every quarter during the year. Each quarter will have 3 traditional styles and 1 wild card style where ingredients and/or techniques are specified and must be used. All beers are judged by qualified beer judges and feedback is returned to each partic

ipant. At the end of the year, all 4 Best of Show winners will be asked back to compete in a head-to-head showdown that is presented to the public. The public will taste each brewer’s beer and then decide by ballot whose is the best. Each brewer will provide 10 gallons (ingredients purchased by Atlantic Brew Supply for the brewer) and patrons will sample the beers at Raleigh Brewing Company. The chosen brewer is then crowned the Champion of the Carolina Quarterly Brew Off (along with many other sweet prizes)!

The People Have Spoken!

Congratulations to our 2017 Champion Sean Callihan, whose Belgian Blond won the most votes at our public tasting event. He beat out 3 other really good beers to take home the trophy.

And the winner of Quarter 4’s CQBO is ................. Sean Callihan, who brewed a fantastic Belgian Blond called Beanie's Dumbe Blonde. Sean will now have the chance to compete in the finals in January!

Thanks to all of you who entered. We’ll have scoresheets, ribbons, and Sean’s medal ready later next week after we recover from Black Friday at Atlantic Brew Supply.

We've just finished preliminary judging for all of the beers for Quarter 4 of the Carolina Quarterly Brew Off! All that remains is to judge the Best in Show table to determine the final winner. We'll post news of the winner on Sunday, once we know who it is. Score sheets and ribbons will be ready next week. Thanks for all of your delicious entries!

Please accept our apology - regrettably we were not able to get all of our judging done for Q3 yet, and will need to delay the results announcement. Some of you might know that we've been renovating our shop over the last few weeks, and in the hectic environment of moving around the 1800 items we sell from one end of our building to another a few times, we just ran out of time!

Our plan is to judge this week, and get results ready to announce on Sunday.

Tyler's "Baltic Sea Legs" Baltic Porter won the taster's choice with its delicious, roasty malt character, and brown sugar, full-bodied sweetness. And the Quarter 4 winner is...a delicious Baltic Porter brewed by Tyler Steede!

One sip of his "Baltic Sea Legs" and we were metaphysically transported to a windswept Kaliningrad balcony, huddled around our pint glasses and preparing for the coming winter - very well brewed, Tyler!

Stay tuned for more information about the public tasting event that will pick the Carolina Quarterly Brew Off's 2016 winner, coming up in January!
