I have used this quote as guiding encouragement, as I transitioned from a career in investment real estate, to a retirement project of farming wine grapes in our Ramona vineyard.

I first shared these words of wisdom here back in 2019, and they could be applied at many stages of life, to various circumstances, to faith and certainly to career decisions...

The mission for Bearing Fruit Vineyard is for it to continue to thrive as a charitable, retirement endeavor.

As the 1908 vines are harvested each year... 100% of the funds, from the sale of the grapes to Bernardo Winery, is channeled into the Bearing Fruit Foundation. This provides additional charitable resources, supplementing our primary contributions, for the foundation’s ongoing work.

We periodically barrel 4% of the Bearing Fruit Vineyard grapes under a “private label wine - BEARING FRUIT VINEYARD” from a harvest. Sometimes a Red Blend or perhaps a single varietal (Petite Sirah, Sangiovese or Malbec).

We are blessed by this project, and by the people that we have met along the way.

Karen and I attended the San Diego County Vintner’s Wine Festival yesterday, which was hosted by Bernardo Winery.

As we walked in, we caught Ross’ eye and said “hello”. We had a short conversation about Bearing Fruit Vineyard, and he went on to say “you know, we’re pouring your Sangiovese today”.

Wow. What an honor to be a part of representing his winery at the event he was hosting. Knowing that, it was a special day even before we tasted our first of many of the other San Diego area wines.

Our apple tree is truly abundant this year. We are not confident in the variety of apple, as it was planted on the property prior to our purchase. There might be close to 100 on the tree! 🍎
