From flowering to fruit set!

This year our vineyard has been ahead of schedule. We are about 1 month ahead on most of our varieties. The first two pictures are from our Syrah and the last two pictures are from our Cabernet Sauvignon Jackson Clone.

If the weather keeps getting warmer then maybe we will have an early harvest, who knows.

Grenache produces some beautiful big juicy clusters. Our Grenache block is part of our younger vines here at Edwards Vineyard. In the past few years we have blended it with our other varieties. This year it’s looking really possible that it gets fermented as a single batch. Only time will tell.

This week we will be working on shoot thinning the vines.

When we shoot thin we remove the excess growth. Getting rid of non-count buds and unproductive shoots. This helps reduce canopy density and improves airflow. Allowing proper sunlight exposure which in return increases fruit quality.
