The last month has been full of working bulls, putting cows on grass and rotationally grazing, welcoming baby number nine, introducing the bulls to the herd, and haying!

Busy time of year but we wouldn't change it a bit!

Can you tell she is a first time Momma?!

Meanwhile I can't tell the difference between the five bull calves because they are not tagged and no where near their mothers!

First time Momma Lacey is trying to even out the count!

The other day while feeding we noticed all signs were pointing to Lacey getting close to giving birth. By 10 o'clock her water was out. With close monitoring we let her and nature do their thing. She worked hard and never gave up successfully delivering a SPUNKY 110lb heifer. Lacey went right to tending her calf, licking her all over while talking to her. After a few minutes Lily and I went to load her in the sled and bring her in the barn. That little girl kept jumping out bouncing around! We finally got her in and as she jumped up we picked up our speed. The girl surfed the whole way to the barn (wish I could have had a third hand to take a picture!)

Once inside Lacey was not understanding why this new baby kept trying to suck on her udder. Little Paisley wouldn't give up and within 15 minutes had her Momma trained to stand there and let her nurse.

Perfect Mom, perfect Baby. Doesn't get better than that! 🩷

Miss Katie surprised us during morning herd check the other morning when we found an extra calf out there! We were thinking she would be the next to calf but didn't think it was imminent.

In the early morning hours she gave birth to a ready to roll bull weighing in at 128 lbs. This boy is full of s***k! Loves following mom around but can also be found ripping up the pasture with the other calves. The other night he decided he preferred to sleep on the lawn. Momma wasn't too thrilled about that!

We are officially half way through calving season!

I was convinced that Ella was having twins. She was as wide as a hippo and anytime you touched her belly you were in for some good kicks from the calf inside. I thought there were two wrestling to get into position.

But, nope, this girl had one bull calf weighing in at a whopping 102lbs. (lightest one so far) 🤷‍♀️ Guess you never know!

For those keeping count we are at 4 bulls and 1 heifer...5 more to go! Will it even out or are we going to have a year of bulls?!

And number four is a girl! Hannah gave birth to a spitfire of a young lady weighing in at 124 pounds. She has been on the move since the moment she was born. She watched her brothers for the first few days and is now joining in on the fun. Three men and a little lady now!

And the third calf of the season is....another bull!!! With a little assistance Kayla gave birth to a beautiful caramel colored bull. They got to hang out in the barn for a day before rejoining the herd. We had a feeling another was on the way and wanted the barn ready!

The second cow to calve this year was Fiona producing another bull for the count.

She gave birth during daylight and close enough to the house for us to watch the whole thing. After allowing some bonding time between mom and baby Adam popped the calf in the sled and pulled him to the barn where they spent a few days before rejoining the herd.

The first calf of the 2026 season arrived last week! Judy gave birth to this incredibly light colored bull. He's absolutely adorable, full of s***k, and loves attention.

This year we need to use P names. For now, we are holding off on naming any bull calves because they may be part of a working steer team. For now he is #1 but start brainstorming names, we will need them at some point!
