Have you ever heard of Dragon Tail Radishes? If yes, I'm impressed, because before this year, I had no idea these things existed. But I found a random pack of seeds one day at Fleet Farm, thought they were cool, and bought them 🤷♀️ little did I know, we were in for an adventure with those seeds.
Dragon Tail Radishes are an heirloom Asian aerial radish. They aren't grown for their bulbs, like traditional radishes. Instead, they're grown for their long, slender, purple seed pods that you would mistake for a bean any day. The pods taste like a mix of radish and chives with a hint of horseradish. They grow as small bush like plants that sprout clusters of beautiful little purple, pink and white flowers. Every single flower turns into a seed pod (see...this is where it gets interesting), so the yield on these plants are INSANE!
And so after a few months of waiting, we finally did our first BIG harvest of the dragon tails. I clearly underestimated these when planting, but I'm seriously impressed and super happy with them! There's a few hundred in just that basket, and that was only half of our planting. These beautiful purple babies will be hitting the jars this weekend, so watch for another post on how they turn out!
