Kerales Farm & Border Collies

Kerales Farm & Border Collies Farming in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley We offer pasture raised, gourmet lamb either by the whole or by the individual cut.

Kerales lamb is lean, tender, and delicious. We occasionally offer mutton as well. Additionally, we have free range eggs for sale from our chickens. We occasionally breed our working Border Collies, and place them selectively in working and performance homes. Kerales dogs have been represented at the USBCHA Finals, AKC and USDAA Finals, and on the USA World Agility Team. All dogs going into performance homes are sold on non-breeding terms.

Oh no, vicious dog!! She's showing her teeth!!😲
No, this is what is known as a submissive smile. Most of our livestock guardians will do this when scolded/reprimanded. They are showing that they accept your authority. One of the reasons we like Maremmas so much is that they tend to really like people. Ours are that way. We have to watch for pups being overly social in our litters--it doesn't matter how you raise them, some are just wired that way. They are wonderful dogs and an important asset on our farm.

Wet nose Wednesday Part 2: For those worried about their LGDs and the coming storms this weekend, make sure you have plenty of dry straw or hay for them to lie in. Also, a windbreak or shelter from the wind/rain is important. Your LGD should not have to be brought into a barn unless you are bringing your livestock in as well. The biggest concern is the dogs and livestock getting wet from heavy rain, followed by high winds, before they can fully dry out. This can cause hypothermia. If you suspect this, have lots of dry, warm towels ready and bring them into a warm room to dry. Provide feed and room-temperature water until their body temperature is normal, 100-102 F. If their temperature is below 98F, contact a vet immediately!

While we were away for Christmas, a friend stopped by to check on things. One of the folks who accompanied her was flying his drone. Watch while one guardian takes the sheep away to safety while the other guardian stays with the “threat”. When the sheep are safely away, both dogs team up to handle the threat. These dogs are simply amazing. One of the predators we deal with are black headed vultures. They will peck the eyes out of newborn lambs—horrible creatures. Having guardian dogs that patrol the air is a necessity.

Some dogs just love kids! We had someone picking up some ewes, and their kids jumped out to be with their mom. We have Maremmas because of their social nature.

🚨Help!!🚨

MABCR is full with six+ more dogs waiting for intake! Please, if you've been considering adoption now is the time!

Several of the current dogs we have are fairly easy, low to mid energy, companion pups. We also have a wide variety of pups seeking active walking/hiking/hobby sport homes and a few more complex minor behavior modification. Basically, if you're looking for a border collie to add to the family, we probably have the perfect one!

Adoptions always slow down this time of year, but unfortunately surrenders typically go up. This is the biggest backlog of dogs we've had in a very long time. Please consider helping us help them.
