There’s something special about taking a race truck into the quiet stretch of the Black Hills. When Red Lightning is street‑legal, you don’t wait for a race weekend — you jump in with the Black Hills 4 Wheelers and let the day unfold.

The BH4W crew has always been more than a club. They’re families, stewards of the forest, and some of the strongest supporters of Y.O.R.R. Yellowstone Off Road Racing Yorracing.com . Their passion for off‑road racing is the kind that spreads — the kind that changes things.

Nacho Race Team actually started with one simple sentence said to Tom on a day just like this:
“You should build a race truck.”
And in true Tom fashion, the answer was an easy “OK!” — the beginning of everything that came after.

Today was cold enough to make you zip your jacket a little higher, but that didn’t stop us. We bundled up, fired up Red Lightning, and wound our way through the hills with good people who love the same dirt roads we do.

Days like this remind us where the story started — and why we keep writing new chapters.

One of our last events for the year is the Rapid City car show. Our plan was to take both race cars but the bug still has some issues to work out. So we will just have Red Lightning this year, hope to see supporter's out 🙂

Nacho Race Team Update!

With less than one week until the Y.O.R.R. Yellowstone Off Road Racing Yorracing.com Columbus race, we want to apologize for the quiet feed — it’s been a busy stretch as we've been getting caught up on other projects.

We want to share that we have officially concluded our 2026 season, and what a season it was. Our goal was simple:
4 races — 2 in the Bug and 2 in the Ramcharger.
Not only did we hit that goal, we brought home a 1st, two 3rds, and a 4th. For a year focused on growth, consistency, and learning, we’re incredibly proud of what the team accomplished.

Even though our season is complete, we’ll still be at Columbus — cheering on our fellow racers, doing a little commentating, serving up our famous Nacho Nachos at the annual awards, and supporting Horstpower racing in the pits as they chase their championship. It’s one of our favorite weekends of the year, and we can’t wait to be part of it.

At the end of the month, both vehicles will be headed to a downtown Rapid City car show, and we’re excited to share them with the community. More details coming soon!

Full Flight Friday!!

#523 took full flight at the Y.O.R.R. Yellowstone Off Road Racing Yorracing.com Buffalo Chip 100 race last month and left gravity in the dust.

All four wheels. All heart.

Race weekend recap: we started with Red Lightning shearing right side header collector bolts during qualifying which led to loud backfiring. Checked it out after and I had gear l**e from the front diff all over the engine bay, I over filled it. Spent the rest of Friday getting that fixed up and also decided to lower the floats in the carb.

Karen was first to race and she was doing a great job running a solid 3rd place. 4th place car Alexa Cologne started with some problems but got back running but not really making up much ground. Then Lightning Bug got stuck on a climb and once out wouldn't refire. After some trouble shooting it came down to points failure, we will be switching to Petronix. All the suspension changes worked out great Karen even got it up to 56 MPH!!

Red Lightnings race we bogged at the start so our friend Nathan McDonald jumped out in front. We were staying close until we ran out of fuel, my lowering of the floats made it so we couldn't go full throttle. We did get fired back up and had to pass a couple cars to get back to 3rd. Not our best and close to our worst race but being able to nurse it and finish 3rd put Red Lightning at 14 start/finishes and 13 podiums in a small class (4-6 cars per race)

Race weekend is here! Last Tuesday we got some team photos from The Art of Big Z.

The plan for Saturday is we will run Livestream in the bug (race start around 9:30) and possibly run FB live in the Ramcharger because we race back to back so there is no time to swap. The bug will also have driver co-driver communications.

Buffalo Chip 100 schedule is out!!! We are planning to run both race cars this time out along with qualifying both!! We just tested some external mics for our Livestream through Gearshift Garage so Nacho nation will be able to listen to Karen and Lisa this time out, hopefully a lot less cussing 😂
