The Creek's Edge Welcome to The Creek's Edge, where we raise purebred Icelandic Sheep for breeding stock, meat and fi We practice rotational grazing on our irrigated pastures.

Our small farm is located along Rapid Creek, just east of Rapid City and the beautiful Black Hills of western South Dakota. This allows the flock to have a consistent source of high quality pasture at all times. The flock is fed only the grass and hay that is produced on our farm and neighboring farms. We started our flock in the fall of 1999 and it has grown to between 50-60 breeding ewes and con

sists of both horned and polled animals of many different colors and patterns. We strive to produce animals with excellent meat conformation, heavy muscling and a lean carcass without sacrificing wool quality and productivity. In the fall of 2005, we incorporated artificial insemination into our breeding program. The new technique of Vaginal AI using frozen semen was developed by Dr. Thorsteinn Olaffson of Iceland. Prior to this, AI in sheep was only accomplished using Lathroscopic AI, which is a very invasive and stressful procedure for the animal. Using AI allows us to use semen from the very best rams Iceland has to offer. Please enjoy your visit to our page and feel free to contact us with an questions. It's hard to think about lambs when everything is cold and frozen but it won't be long and usually comes before we are ready. This year we will have AI lambs from horned sires Jonas, Burkni and Kornelius and from polled sires Krapi, Hnallur, Hottur, Mani and Skrauti. Farm rams used were TCE 233F O1H, 242F AI B2SH, 250F O1H, 035C AI B2H, 166E AI M5H and 050C B3P. Pictures are some of the farm rams.

Just a few pictures of the ewes after shearing 3 weeks ago. This year we will have AI lambs from Iceland sires Drifandi, Bjalki, Prudur, Gramann, Kveikur, Hottur, Sigurfari and Hergill plus our own AI sons of Grabottni, Guffi, Blettur and Rodi and other high % AI rams. Our semen from this year's import didn't arrive soon enough to use so was glad to have to have straws in the storage tank from the older guys. The Breeding Flock Page on our website, thecreeksedge.com, shows which rams are bred to the ewes. Happy Lambing Everyone.

This past weekend at the Michigan Fiber Festival it was nice see many old freinds and make some new freinds. At the show we received Grand Champion Ram, Reserved Champion Ewe, 1st place Ram Lamb, 1st and 2nd place Ewe Lamb, 1st place Young Flock and 1st place Flock.
