Well we have had a little bit of an early heat wave with highs in the mid-90s and he didn't access right around 111 to 114. The birds are laying but the new layers, the younger ones having a bit of an adjustment period. They are in the shade with electrolytes in their water and they get cucumber and watermelon chunks everyday around 3:00 in the afternoon. Eventually they will adjust and like their parents and grandparents, they will be Hardy egg laying Little machines.
I am going to try this week to get some pictures of the younger group so it's just a matter of catching them in the morning after good light and before the heat.

SUMMER 2023 SCHEDULE
Beginning Tuesday 6/27

Being near Charleston South Carolina, we're generally in the mid-90s to the low triple digits for July, August and part of September. Due to the heat, we will NOT be having a sales or fun visits between12:00 noon & 7pm!!!!!!!!

NO EXCEPTIONS.

We do this for the safety of our birds because we absolutely refuse to stress them out during the heat of the day.

We will also not be offering birds for sale/pick up after July 15th, again, due to heat.

WE WILL OFFER HATCHING EGGS!!!!

You may come to the farm and see the parent birds when purchasing hatching eggs locally however please remember to adhere to the schedule.

8:30 AM - 12:00 NOON
&
7:00PM - 9:00PM

We thank you for your understanding as we strive to keep our birds happy and healthy!!!!

You have that one bird, that one chicken or that one quail, or you have that one young bull or one ram sheep, even that one billy goat that is just the most perfect and beautiful and yet..😭. The absolute most trying and testing...😡.
Yes, yes I admit I made separate accommodations for him and only him, so that he could go in with the girls for a few hours a day once a week. Then he goes into his bachelor pad. But in my defense....
HE'S FREAKING GORGEOUS and worth every minute of high maintenance aggravation that he gives to me...

Well let's just say I decided to give the quail pen area a cleaner more crisp look.
My plans this past winter were to put a 12x20 cover out here and the quail pens were going to go under that, however about that time I also decided that I didn't want to continue to raise nine different colors, I just wanted to specialize in a few colors so I really did not need a lot of room for a lot of birds.
The two sets I have now that are double-sided will hold a couple of hundred birds and I've decided that it's better to work smart not hard 😁 so in the decision to keep things the way they were I wanted to make it neater in appearance but give it a fresh cool look. There are more plans for the area up front which include a new bird bath with a fountain, a small garden and fairy lights.
Yes I know it's "girly" LOL but it's also bright enough that any customers coming out to this rural area, now definitely know they're in the right place!! 🤣🤣

Okay ladies and gentlemen we are sold out for the first two weeks of April. We have eggs in the incubator and we should have some hatching in a couple of weeks. This is also going to be our big fertility test for all of them except for the Froghop line of Jumbo Pharoah, which we hope to start seeing eggs from them any day!!!
