What started as a trip to deliver some ÍG chicks turned into one of those days you wish you could bottle up and keep forever.

Beautiful views, fresh air, storms rolling across the mountains, skipping rocks by the water, and nowhere we needed to be except where we already were.

Sometimes the simplest days end up being the ones you remember most. ❤️

📦 Shipping Update

To help ensure the safe arrival of shipped birds, all orders that include one of my GPS trackers will now have an additional $30 tracker deposit added to the shipping cost.

This fee is fully refundable once the tracker is returned to me in working condition.

Thank you for your understanding and for helping me continue to monitor shipments and improve the shipping experience for everyone. 😊

I have driven all over the place today and decided to spend the evening outside with my water puppies. 🥰

Peep something special from Blue Feather Farms 😉

It's never too early to start building trust. 🥰

A few darkling beetles and a little time spent together goes a long way in socializing young birds. The bond you build when they're young often stays with them for life.

There is a huge difference between educated linebreeding and careless inbreeding, and it is important people understand that.

Linebreeding is a tool. When done correctly and responsibly, it can help preserve desirable traits, consistency, and type within a breeding program. Good breeders use careful selection, detailed record keeping, and strategic outcrossing to maintain vigor while improving their lines over time.

But breeding extremely close relatives repeatedly without proper genetic management is where problems can start appearing.

Constant sibling-to-sibling breeding over and over can increase the likelihood of: • Reduced fertility
• Lower hatch rates
• Weak immune systems
• Structural defects
• Reduced vigor overall

Every weakness hiding in a line has a greater chance of surfacing when genetics become too tight without proper planning.

Preservation breeding is not just about making birds taller or reproducing a certain look. It is about maintaining healthy, functional birds that can thrive for generations to come.

Genetics matter. Education matters. Responsible breeding matters.

One thing that is extremely important for the future of Índio and Polaco Gigante in the United States is genetic diversity.

If everyone only buys from the same small group of bloodlines, it can eventually create genetic bottlenecks and increase the risk of inbreeding issues over time.

That can lead to:
🚩Reduced fertility
🚩Lower hatch rates
🚩Weak immune systems
🚩Structural issues
🚩Loss of overall vigor

Preservation is about building healthy, sustainable birds for generations to come, not just following trends or focusing on one single line.

There is also a major difference between educated linebreeding and being forced into overly tight genetics because there are so few unrelated birds available.

A lot of people are purchasing chicks that are siblings or very closely related without even realizing how limited the gene pool has become in some circles. That makes long-term progress difficult and can eventually cause these birds to plateau genetically.

Linebreeding can absolutely be a useful tool when done responsibly and with proper outcrossing, planning, and record keeping. But no breeding program can thrive long term without access to healthy genetic diversity.

I have proudly worked on and claimed my own line for the past 5 years, but I have never once gatekept the original breeders or discouraged people from learning from others and expanding their genetics. Healthy collaboration and diversity are important for the future of these breeds.

If we truly care about preservation, then education and access to diverse genetics should matter more than cliques, hype, or trying to control who people learn from.

Also, for the sake of accuracy and education, Greenfire Farms does not and never has imported Brazilian Índio Gigante birds.

At the end of the day, we should all want the same thing:
Strong, healthy birds and a better future for the breed.

The Índio Gigante market is becoming the next big hype, and unfortunately America is already starting to ruin this breed with greed, shortcuts, false advertising, and careless breeding.

That is EXACTLY why the American Índio Gigante Breeders Association - AÍGBA was formed.

Our goal has never been just hype, popularity, or chasing money. Our mission is preservation, education, and protecting the integrity of this incredible breed for future generations.

People are throwing the name “Índio Gigante” on anything tall and charging outrageous prices while many cannot prove size, lineage, or quality. New buyers are being misled every single day.

If you are buying these birds, ASK QUESTIONS.

Ask for proof. Ask for measurements. Ask for bloodlines. Ask to see the parent stock.

Ethical breeders who are truly working to preserve this breed should have no issue being transparent about what they produce.

The APA acceptance conversation is exciting, but in the grand scheme of things it is minor compared to the importance of preserving what makes this breed special in the first place. If preservation is ignored in favor of hype and profit, there will be nothing left worth standardizing.

The American Índio Gigante Breeders Association will continue pushing education, ethical breeding, transparency, and preservation over trends and cash grabs.

Protect the breed.
Protect new buyers.
Protect the future of Índio Gigante. 🖤🐓
